Compact Spare for JCW

Does anyone know of a compact spare wheel/tire that will fit a JCW? Obvious concerns about brake caliper clearance. A pothole took out both right side tires and wheels on my Clubman. Definitely want to replace the gawd-awful runflats and not happy with the prospect of using Slime or waiting for AAA.

Cheers Jon in SC

Good luck. Had this issue when I debated non-RFTs for winter tires. Nothing smaller than a 17" wheel will fit over our massive front calipers.

I suppose you could use the clubman's extra cargo space and carry around a full-size spare

All you need is a compact spare to fit over the REAR brakes. If you get a flat in the front you put one of your rears on it and put the spare on the rear. Its more labor intensive, but you dont wanna carry/worry/deal with "slime" and AAA.

...say, did you take the rim/tire insurance when you bought the car? I'm guessing not. I did, and for that reason I'm expecting that I'll never have a problem. I wish I hadn't taken it tho as I'm not able to swap to different tires & rims if I want to take advantage of the insurance if something were to happen to mine.

Thanks, BigCat68. Your suggestion reminds me of the old lugnuts/mental institution joke MiniMania carries the factory spare wheel/tire combo and...checking with them this morning....they assured me that it will fit a JCW rear. Not perfect but works for me. Bit pricey though. Thanks all.

Will the space saver spare fit where the tool box is in the boot... or do you have to just carry it like luggage?

If the bolt pattern, offset and hubsnout size for the JCW is the same as an 06 MCS then the donut spare for the 95-98 VW Jetta,82-89 Honda Accord and the 01-02 Honda Civic may fit. Most salvage yards will sell them for a fraction of what an oem or aftermarket Mini spare donut costs. I plan to purchase one when I get rid of the runflats. Good luck

I'm thinking the spare will fit where the styrofoam tool "box" is currently located. The tools would have to find another home.

Are you talking about the tools located under the floor of the boot? If so, that space is pretty small, which I can not imagine a tire fitting in that space. I would say that if you purchased a spare for the MINI then it would have to be carried as luggage in the back.

The well in my Clubman is 8" X 22.75". the specs for the spare are:
Sidewall Height: 3.17"
Section Width: 4.53"
Overall Diameter: 21.34"
Circumference: 67.04"
Revs per mile: 974.70
Weight: Approx. 20 lbs.

MiniMania also sells the hold-down hardware for the spare (again, all factory parts) and show a picture of the tire in the boot-well on their website. The spare is also listed as fitting 2008+ R56.

Do hate to loose that storage space though.

spare tire for JCW

Mini has a styrofoam insert that is used for the spare and the tools it costs around $38.00. also a note on the Mini rim. I purchased the factory rim from the dealer he assured me it would fit the JCW rear, but when I tried it out some of the welds on the rim touched the diam. face of the caliper. The fix for me was to use a 10mm spacer to make the rim clear. A lot of stuff to buy and do for a spare but I have one now. Take it easy, but take it. Ken R.

Shouldn't you run the spare on the rear anyway because of the LSD? I know in the Miata world that if you have an LSD you always put the spare on the front...

Got my Cobalt spare from that seller $47.97 shipped. He had several then, so I picked the 2009 Cobalt, newest he had at the time. Came fast, tire brand new never used. Just fit it up to the rear of my 2010 MCS - fit and cleared fine.

Also just bought a set of these - VERY handy to use when mounting wheels:
