2009 JCW Winter Wheel Option

I spoke with Tirerack today, inquiring about a set of winter wheels and tires for my 2009 JCW MINI. No luck as of yet. They are waiting to get their hands on a 2009 JCW MINI to confirm what wheels they offer will have the necessary clearance for the brake calipers.

So if anyone with a 2009 JCW MINI is in the area of South Bend, IN, please stop by so they can verify fitment so I can order a winter wheel/tire setup.

I'm interested in this too. I might want a set of winter wheels/tires that could double as track rims with R-Comps for the summer.

I think I read on the "other" forum, that there is a R114 wheel that is supposed to be a winter wheel option for the JCW cars.

IIRC, it is 17" x 5.5" in the "CrossSpoke" design
185/50R17 RFT tires

That's great, if you want to overpay for MINI OEM wheels.

09 JCW with All-Season Tires

Yes, I know that its better to have dedicted summer and winter tires but I can survive on all-season tires as I also have a 4x4 to drive on bad snow days. Has anyone tried to order all-season tires with their JCW? My dealer is saying the plant will not put all-season on a JCW.

Thanks

I asked about it since there was one list that called it out as an option. I was unable to get all-seasons. My JCW came with Dunlop SP Sport 01 DSST. Reviews on TireRack are not so good (1.5/10 with 10 reviewers).

I believe BBS RV-F should fit (I'll get a testfit soon for Krut's car). Anything BBS lists as fitting Brembo and Stoptech should be ok. Not that buying BBS for winter is prudent financially speaking (or, swap the summer tires on them and put the winter tires on teh stock Borbet's).

Any idea if prices get higher as we get closer to the winter season? I'm going to need some snow tires and would like to put them on a dedicated wheel. I really could care less as to what size the wheel is and I don't care much about how it looks. Just want something cheaper than MINI wheels.

What's the hold up here?! Let's get our best people working on this issue.

How hard can it be to get a JCW or at the very least buy the BBK/rotors and put it on a regular S? Isn't TireRack a player? If not lets find someone who is!

Seems like no one wants their job anymore.

I asked the same question to my MA when I ordered and was told that the JCW doesn't even have it as an option. So then I asked if they would be willing to swap out the tires for all-seasons. They also turned this option down. I figure that I'll just get some winter tires in November. Well... that's if we ever find out what can fit.

I'm actually off to Mach V Motorsports to volunteer my car to test fit a variety of Rota wheels - I'll take pictures and post on here which wheels fit.

Also, I have a set of 17" BBS RV-F's that do clear the Brembos.

Does anyone live near any of the TireRack locations? When I called to asked about JCW winter wheel fitments they asked if I could come in so that they could check some on my car and take measurements. They said that they would work out a deal for me but I live nowhere near any of them.

I'd emailed and Gus said they do all their measurements in South Bend, IN. Did you get any other locations? If so, please share.

Sorry - poor assumption on my part. They just said to come in and I assumed that their locations in Georgia, Nevada and Louisiana had a retail outlets too.

I just saw this on the Mini USA site. Makes me mad at my MA who told me it was not an option.

Unfortunately, there are a few things that show up as available on the MINIUSA configurator that aren't really available.

I saw that JCW options table and asked the sales manager about the All Season tires after being told they weren't available. He said it was a mistake & that they really are not available from factory for the JCW.

Does anyone know if the non-JCW 17" MINI wheels (crown spoke, flame spoke, etc.) will fit on the JCW?

Evidently Canada has the R114 for sale.

Check out the pic here (it's the second package):

http://www.mini.ca/en/Sales_Service/...s/default.aspx

I thought they were supposed to look like the R113 but these look to be monotone silver! Ugh!

I wish there was a straight on view so I could get a better look at 'em.

Also I do believe you can order these via your friendly MINI dealer though I'm not 100% sure.

You still have to order the TPMS valve and stem....

I did, however, get confirmation that these will definitely fit over the factory JCW brembo brakes.

Ugh.

Also have the same question, but have not ordered my '09 JCW yet, so cannot check.

However, the link from mini.ca in the post above also shows R97 as a winter option for the JCW, and that is a 17" rim from the R53 and R56 MCS.

I suspect someone with a JCW will soon find a local friend and try out different size rims to see if they fit. Or if anyone in the Southeast PA area wants to try a test fitting with my 17" MCS web spokes, please feel free to send PM.

Direct from my SA:

R55 and R56 JCW cars can not use the 15" or 16" snow tire package***
MINI recommends using 205/45r17 snow tires on the existing 17" rims or
purchasing rims and tire pressure sensors (approved rims
R97,R104,R108,R110 AND R112).
