I may be buying this in a couple of days. My 2010 had a factory roof rack on it. It's very confusing on the Mini site as to whether or not I can do the same thing on this model. Has anybody installed the factory roof rack on this, and what exactly was involved? Also, are there a aftermarket options for roof racks that I might do better with?
Just got off the phone with the dealer. They said you can't put the factory rack on unless the car has the rails on it that run front to back. The car is not onsite yet so I don't know if it has those. I also don't know what determines why they are there or not. They said that putting those on there is a 2k option. Sucks 'cause this would be a deal breaker for me.
Here's a picture of what factory roof rails look like. They are the two black strips running down the roof line. I know this is a Countryman, but they look the same on the F56.

Guess I need to look at aftermarket options.
If you can get the VIN from the dealer, you can decode it and see if the car comes with the S386A Roof railing option.
Thanks, this has all been very informative. Guess I'm out of luck with this buying this one. They also have a 4 door with rails that is a little less money, I've always had 2 doors but maybe I'll consider that. Looks like it has a bit more storage room. Man, it is tough finding a used car these days.
