so i need a roof rack for my r53 asap! i really like the price of the oem one plus it looks identical to my oem bmw one which means my custom drilled thule bike trays should fit right on it. however it appears as though i have to drill holes in my roof, not psyched on that. my roof is black though if that helps. anyone know anything about these or their installation? what do the holes mean for my resale value?

 

If you are putting a factory rack on it shouldn't really have a big effect on resale as someone who doesn't want a roof rack simply won't buy it in the first place.

 

Once you install the factory roof rack you can uninstall it or leave it on as you please, do a search and you'll find the PDF for the installation and I think that Octane guy has some pics from when he installed his, it's not a step by step but it will give you a very good idea on what it looks like and it's a factory option so it will not affect resale or gain anything from it, the price it's right on this racks the install its scary

 

Get the factory rack. The Thule and Yakima racks mount in ways that can hurt your roof too. I had the Thule and worried constantly about the pressure on the roof and drip rails. Eventually took it off. Had to do some work to get the "marks" off my roof.
