new custom order jcw, not being ordered.

I placed an order 5 days ago. put money down. since then the dealer keeps saying the system is down, they can't do the order. I called mini. mini said the problem is on the dealer end. the dealer said mini are idiots, don't talk to them.

meanwhile I can't even get the dealer to answer the phone or reply to email, unless I call the floor phone. feels like they are avoiding me. they just say, nothing we can do. just wait till it works again.

is this a unique experience?

Try calling the next closest dealer and ask them? Just tell them you're looking to place a factory order for the car you want, and see what they say?

When I ordered my JCW, I was told by the dealer that when it is placed depends on their allocations. Some dealers don't get many JCW allocations. So maybe your dealer doesn't have an allocation yet. I would call a few and ask.

My guess is they are looking for one to dealer trade, perhaps they are not able to order a JCW and do not want to loose the sale. Get your money back now! Possibly not an honest dealer.

They have high end cars there, maybe MINI at bottom of their obligations, and they only have two 2021 MINIs in stock....
How about down the road a bit...the other MINI dealer..better inventory and maybe better "relations" with factory ordering.

What I did when I bought my 2020 JCW Clubman in April was search for the nearest dealer that had what I wanted in stock. There are 3 Mini dealers in AZ and one had that car so I made a deal on my phone and bought it there the following week, traded in my 2014 JCW and everything.

I am attempting to order a JCW also.

Dealer said there are only a limited number of JCW slots available for 2021's. They had none left, but are trying to get a slot from another dealership.

Said 2022's will begin in a month or so.

Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then!

The Bob Seeger line in the title aptly described my situation. I ordered on Dec. 11, 2020. It took 10 days to get a production number and just got the VIN number today on 1/18/21. It is scheduled to be built on the 5th week of the year which would mean Feb. 7! I didn't find out about the dealer allotments until after I placed the order. They were closed over the holidays and then an extra week to install some new painting equipment on the line, so this isn't totally a dealer delay. What irritates me is the 8-12 week delivery estimate I was given when they had to know about holiday closures and their position in ordering.
The Customer Service at Mini is super careful to never be critical of the dealer and can really tell you little more than is posted on the web where you track your vehicle.
What I have learned is from Mini enthusiasts and another dealer who went out of the way to answer questions even knowing I had already ordered. Needless to say if I buy again I will be taking my business to dealer number 2!
The problem is that you don't know you need to ask questions until after you have problems! Wish folks would figure out that honesty really does pay off if you want future business,

PS Does anyone know why my icon head is so big and how to fix? i was so pleased I turned a photo into an icon that I didn't know it would be so big!

Sounds like some good news for you.

Mine moved from On Order to Scheduled for Production right away, but has been sitting in that status for the past week a half.

Generally, car makers shut down production of a model year later in that same year (can be anywhere from July onward) They shut the production line down for a couple of weeks and set it up for the new model. A reason why you can order or buy the next year's car before the current year expires (either through order or one off the dealer's lot). With it being this late in the production cycle, I can't imagine getting a newly made 2020 in February of 2021.

I have ordered a 2015 Corvette and a 2017 BMW and received both of them prior to the new year (I received the 2015 in Oct 2014 and my 2017 BMW in Dec of 2016 - as I ordered that BMW later in the year and it was delayed two weeks when the transport ship broke down in Southampton.) .

I believe he is worried that it will be a newly made 2022, not a 2020.

A good friend of mine, bought his 2nd Tesla. It was a custom order (or so he thought). Weeks after accepting delivery, he started to notice some things. It turns out that Tesla had a 2017 model sitting in factory storage, that matched his unique ordering options ( I think the roof style/type ?). Tesla re-VIN'ed the 2017 as a 2019, and shipped/sold it to him. How he figured out this, is that he was missing all the new features a 2019 model suppose to have, over a 2017 model. Tesla refused to add those features to his vehicle.

I ordered my JCW in September of last year and received it December 8th. I work for the dealer and was my own salesperson so I could only complain to myself. I ordered a GP3 for myself on the first day. It was the first to arrive but I ended up passing on it because I really wanted a manual. Overall it took over a year to get a car. I'm glad I waited and got what I wanted. Now I just have to make it as fast or faster than the GP3 on the track. 😉

I'm not looking at speed as much as handling. My wife's M car is the speed demon. New suspension going in next week. Wheels and tires next. I work at a BMW dealership that also sells MINI. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I'm guessing yours is the Orange on order at Braman?

I bet the GP3 handles pretty good. Same as my car but a few hundred pounds lighter, a tad lower, and no All4. Right?
