F55/F56 Aftermarket Strut Mounts!
Aftermarket Strut Mounts!
Curious if they exist and if so, where to find??
I currently have a slight clunkedy clunk I hear with no radio on, while driving over speed bumps at a reduced speed, but not crawling. I don't believe it to be subframe oriented based on the feedback from the noise. I should mention the suspension is no longer OEM but on Bilstein coils.
I replaced the mounts once before, and that was possibly within the time of the last 20K miles!!
What can I do, if anything, to replace a part, that seems severely stress limited, with something more robust??

Hey, so I am not the only one with F56 strut mount issues. I have a post on here in Gen 3 Stock issues section you should check out, but the "fix"for the OEM strut mounts noted in the posts now outdated and I will be updating by end of November with a better fix for the original mounts... The problem with the OEM strut mounts is the spring interface/bearing which is made out of plastic (probably Zetel) and lasts about 4-6 months before staring to do the clicking, grinding noise. A very bad designed not sufficient for a go-cart, let alone a automobile by BMW and used elsewhere on other BMW models, and a big issue over in England...guess they have bad roads and potholes too. You can replace them, buying the whole mount...about a $125 each and then get ready to do it again and again... I am working on a solution beyond what my original post provided though your you right now the only choice is the OEM strut mount, no aftermarket parts available yet...I am working on a fix that will be marketed using your old mount with a more robust system, less the crappy bearing pack. I almost went to coilovers with an aftermarket camber adjustable mount, but due to the likelihood of most guys not wanting to pay a $$$, and keeping the stock setup, is why I am working on a kit for retrofit of the bearing/spring interface for the stock mount. More to come.
Oh, if you have coilovers then the best top mount (strut mount) with camber/caster adjustment is from Compbrake in England. Google their name and you can get rid of that substandard OEM mount for about $300 for a set instead of a lot more from Vorshlag or that Australia made camber top mount from Kmac.
@Davevolved , your solution looks beautiful- any way to bake another 1 degree of camber in? =) I have a new set of OE top mounts here waiting to install- I'm hoping this gets rid of some noise and impercise feeling. For a few bucks more, I'd love to have adjustable camber, as long as I'm not getting a harsher ride or unpleasant noises. What makes you say Compbrake is the best? The spherical bearing looks pretty small, actually, compared to the huge round bearing on the Vorshlag. The KMAC urethane worries me that it will wear out, and the adjustment method seems really sloppy.
@al the mini man , can you give a little review? How long you had them? And do you know what size you ordered- mine would also go on KW (street comfort).

If you didn't care about camber/caster adjustments and you just wanted a reliable mount for your JCW/KW coilover installation (2021 model year), wouldn't these be a nice step up from OEM? The bearing looks fairly small, but I think I'd rather have that than the factory plastic bearing!

Those look like they're for earlier generations, don't they? I believe by "late model" they meant post-Morris, haha.

LOL I was wondering the same thing! Why not just use chassis codes like everyone else to eliminate any ambiguity!
KMACs are here, not too many places make them for the Gen 3 MINIs. If more brands come out or we make one I will let you know.
