Updating to Union Jack Brake Lights

Hi,

I recently updated my 2017 Justa with the Union Jack brake lights. My stock lights were not LEDs. The place that did it said they coded the new lights but the lights would flicker on start-up. I looked around this forum, found the solution, and used my OBDII reader to fix the coding.

Since then, a local club member has posted a comment that eBay is selling lights that have already been coded. I replied that I thought the coding is in the car's ECU, not the lights.

Can anybody shed some light on this issue? TIA.

There are some seller who list on Ebay but the light are aftermarket and cost more than genuine ones.
These are plug and play as i believe they have resistors built in to stop the warnings on dash and flickering.
The flicker on start up with the genuine ones is coded out with Bimmercode by changing the options for each light to LED and then changing all cold and warm monitoring options from active to deactivate

What Robby71 says

IMHO youve chosen your path by buying the OEM quality lights and using bimmercode and removing codes.
Your mate on your local board prefers buying the non OEM lights with an additional electrical box wired in to negate any coding. Different solution to same problem

Andriod mentality vs ios would be a relatable problem/solution route.

To complicate there are third solution - kinda a hybrid of the two - mulgari offers OEM lights with the additional module to trick modules/remove the need to code. You can see the clunky box in the pics...

How you guys doing? Just putting this out there to see if anyone had the same issue and how they resolved it. So I have a F57, 2017 Cooper S, Convertible with the Halogen lights. I just purchased a pair of European Tail Lightshttps://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-MINI-OE...72.m2749.l2649. After installing and Coding, the error on the dash went away, but the tailights doesn't light up. The turn signal works and the brake light works, but I cant get the Union Jack to light up, I followed all the directions to code it, and it's still not activating. Did any of you guys had that issue? and how did you resolve it?

I thought the union jack area only lights up as the parking lights are turned on.

Union Jacks light up when headlights or sidelights are switched on. You can use Bimmercode to activate then to work as DRLs so when ignition is on so are the lights

My problem is my sidelights are not on. So I am not sure if I need to repin 1 to 5 since I am going from strictly Halogen to LEDS.

I had tried to purchase the Euro ones and couldn't get them to work so I just ended up returning them. I already had LED union jacks, I just liked the look of the Euros better.

That's weird, I would think they would be PnP, or at least minimum coding since yours was already LEDs.

Have you tried with the light switch in all positions?
If you have 6 wires to each connector you don't need to swap the pins but if you have 5 then you do

6 wires

So a quick update. I finally got them working by switching pin 1 to 5 and coding out the errors

Big shout out to Robby71 and DunkM. They were a valuable source of help to me. Thanks again guys. This is one hell of an upgrade.

Hello, I know this thread is waaay back.

I recently purchase the Union Jack Tail light, but somehow, I can't get the brake to work. Turn Signal work, and union jack work as running light, but the vertical stop light, doesn't light up.

My car has 6 pin connector. Coded out the error message, and still doesn't work. plugged back in the old tail light and stop light do light up. connected new tail light to the LCI and works. mine is 2015 F55s

Thanks
