OBDII Readers to Change Basic Settings

Has anybody used simple OBDII readers to change basic settings - like Start On/Off? Do they do the job?

TIA.

I got the Vgate iCar Pro Bluetooth 4.0 adapter to defeat the Active Sound Design via Bimmerapp- There's a whole host of features you can view on the Bimmerapp page https://bimmercode.app/cars/f56/

I have the Vgate iCar Pro Bluethooth 4.0 too. Works just fine with my MINI and the Bimmer app (and with my Jeep and the Jscan app).

The issue is that most (all?) of the OBD adapters use a chip called ELM237. Unfortunately, there are counterfeit and poor clone copies of this chip out in the marketplace, and OBD adapters built using these, experience flaky operation and sometimes with subtle bugs. You're best to shop for high quality name-brand OBD adapter, and stay away from buying simply the cheapest one you can find.

Thanks but BimmerCode now has a warning on their site that Vgate devices are no longer working properly. Any other recommendations?

As I wrote above, BimmerCode now has a warning on their site that Vgate devices are no longer working properly. Any other recommendations?

Bimmercode shows other brands as recommended devices. I have the Vgate iCar wi-fi device and it has never failed to connect and do its thing. I'd probably just go with what they show as supported.

How are you use that these are a true Vgate device, and not some clone that other users are reporting problems?

Regardless, I only have great experience with my Vgate, and therefore that's the only one I can recommend.
