Can anyone tell me what these circles things are that came with brake pads?

Hey guys,

I'm in the middle of installing my JCW BBK and was installing the pads until I saw these circle things (pictured below).
Watching a youtube video with someone installing the kit, it's mentioned in the comments that they are sticky cups that need to go into the caliper?
Could someone shed light on what I'm suppose to do with them? I had a hard time finding any info online.

Thanks in advance!

They are supposed to be put on the pistons and then the backing peeled. Insert the pads and when you push teh pedals, they will be stuck to the pads.

Here's a link to the instructions on changing the Brembo pads: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...kes/1VnY3JjPeE

Thanks N0B0DY, that clarifies things, so just put them on the piston, peel off the tape, put pads in but don't let them touch the sticky side of the claw plates until you push down your brake pedal to make them stick to the pad.

Dumb question, but what are they suppose to do? Are they necessary for the brakes to work? They look to behave like glue for the pads to stick to the piston?

I believe they are for vibration/noise reduction purposes.

If you aren't sure what this is for.......maybe you shouldn't be doing a brake job that if not done right could kill you.

They are not necessary for the brakes to work. It just helps they be quieter. When I got my new pads they did not even come with them.

I've done multiple brake jobs, on multiple cars of varying makes and models, and I've never encountered something like what the OP is asking about. If I found these in a brake kit I was working with, I wouldn't readily know what they are, either.

I've also changed brakes on different cars and never encountered those. I'd be confident that I could change my pads then would be as confused as the OP about what they were for.

I'm glad the OP asked so know I know too!

I don’t remember them being in my BBK either. Learn something new every day.

If you have them on you cannot quick change the pads. You have to remove the caliper to change pads.

I agree it defeats the whole purpose of quick pad changes with the Brembos.

vid401t - even though the pads look alike, there's an inside pad an an outside pad. It should be marked on the pad somewhere.

Yeah its a give and take.

Put them on, the pads wont chatter and squeal, but you will have to take the caliper off when it is time to change the pads

Just ordered the Hawk High Performance Street 5.0 Brake Pads (HB765B.664) for my 2016 Mini Copper JCW hardtop with Brembo brakes

The OEM part has inside and outside pads. Does Hawk identify inside/outside or does not matter?

Secondly, OEM part has claw disk that goes into the Brembo brake cylinders with sticky tape to hold the brake pads in place.
Hawk does not have claw disks. Should I remove the claw disk and use the shims that comes with the disk or reuse the claw disks?

If reuse claw disks with Hawk shims or without shims?

Thanks

Quick question, how did you figure they would fit? On ECSTuning website when I search for that part number it says 'doesn't fit your car' (2019 F56 JCW 2-door hardtop).

Also, how did you like the pads? I'm about to order them from ECS.

Thanks.

MINI shares parts with BMWW and some of the aftermarket and performance are delayed on the cross refs. You can always shoot me a PM and i can dig into it.

https://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2019-...Braking/Pads/2

These performance options are confirmed.

Did you guys get them to work?

So this is just confirmed - the Hawk Performance HPS 5.0 pads (part number HB765B.664) fit the f56 JCW for the front.
