I notice my two local dealers have 2020 models, F56 and F55. It's nice to see some inventory. I wonder how the new (to North America) DCT transmission will feel and hold up compared to the tried and true 6 speed automatic. Thats the issue for me. I've never driven a DCT that I've liked at low speeds.

I haven't tried the MINI DCT yet. I've not been a fan or VW DSG, Mercedes, or Ford. Low speed driving and rush hour is too jerky. I like a little slush in my automatics. I can drive a manual if I want low speed herky-jerky, lol. My old VW DSG needed fluid service at like 40k too.
Well, I just bought a new 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 8 speed automatic and it’s real jerky at low speeds.....I’ve never driven a car with such a transmission! I suppose that’s progress? My 250,000 mile Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4 speed automatic (I think) shifts as smooth as butter! It’s hopefully a great Jeep, but some of the crap on these new cars are irritating....like these jerky transmissions and ESS...don’t even get me started about that great feature! Gov’t run amuck imo! Stupid stupid!

i hear from engineers that the best DCT's die in constant slow traffic situations. I dont know them well enough to know why. I guess the clutch keeps going in and out. I wonder if there is a setting to force them to remain in gear?

The DCT in my 2012 Audi S4 was horrible at low speeds till I had the tranny shift points tuned, then it was silky smooth. I'm sure MINI tuners are already working on it, hint hint Mario, you listening...
I was going to go to the dealer this weekend and test drive one, just to be nosy.
i learned today that THIS MONDAY will be the day NY dealerships find out if Manual Transmissions will exist again. If so, I will possibly be the one of the first manual owners out there. I hope JCW 2 door will not be stupidly priced.
I just posted about my 2020 JCW HT order in the jcw forum. Base price is up about 2K from the 19 MY. Iconic trim down 1K for MY 20 compared to MY 19. Iconic contains Navi and all the sub-options that are associated with it. Option list short - basically DDC (no charge at least on iconic trim level), alarm (500), DAP is still 1000. I also ordered about 3000 in accessories including an OE winter wheel/tire set. Order was accepted yesterday, have a production number, will be built in September...
Also test drove a 2020 JCW HT iconic with the new 8 speed auto transmission. I currently have a 19 JCW HT with the 6 speed sport auto. transmission. Feel was similar, shift time brisk. Shift lever a BMW parts bin item but still looks better that the older shifter on the 6 speed auto unit, Other than the transmission and newly designed exterior mirrors, the car felt/looked the same as my 19 JCW FWIW.
Can’t say anything about the price of lower trim levels. Dealers do have full pricing/options list.

With the radar stuff (emergency braking, etc) is now standard, one would think that the DCT could figure out that its in slow traffic situations all by itself.

As someone who just bought a 2019 manual, I really hope it was just a temporary pause for "evaluation". Cars are just so much funner with a manual gearbox!

I have a Cherokee Trailhawk with the 8 speed. That transmission is awful. It bucks like a bronco at low speed.

Yes indeed. I won't be able to consider a mini again without the manual.
That's like 30% of the point of the brand, even if you dont get a manual, still is.
The word is the backlash this past month has made them reconsider it. I will hopefully know tomorrow something
Yup, I picked up my 2020 2-door hardtop yesterday, the first from the dealer. I haven't had a chance to take a decent drive, but I'll post photos and observations in the next couple of days.
It's 7-speed and has dual-clutch automatic are the big difference. Cosmetically, the new British Racing Green is lighter than before
The grill is different as for a few cosmetic changes, but I had a 2019 loaner a while ago so I can't exactly point out the difference. The highlights move when you turn it on
I had a 2010 for nine years so everything is new to me technically.

Congratulations!! We saw the 60th anniversary car in BRG IV. It really pops compared to prior shades of green.
Did you purchase from dealer stock or did you order to your specifications?
