F56 is a rattle bucket

Hi all,

I used to have a r56 and I never had such rattles. I have a F56 JCW and it rattles like crazy going over high vibration roads. I've brought it back to the dealer and they tried to fix the sound. They said inthe end it was vibration from the heatshield. It got a little better but now the rattle has gone from driver rear to driver rear and passenger rear. It's driving me crazy to the point that I;m thinking to get rid of the car. Any thoughts or recommendations?

E

A rear rattle in my car wound up being healed by replacing the rear hatch seal, and re-adjusting the tension on the rear hatch pressure points and latch.

YMMV.

Cheers,

Charlie

Had every rattle eliminated, but new ones pop up all the time. Some MINI owners get lucky and others suffer.

I thought it was just mine. Actually have a dealer appointment this Saturday to address the rattles.

I've already been once, and while the original sound got a little better (not gone) others were introduced. I just can;t keep going to the dealer with a 2 hour round trip. Let me know how yours go!

I had a couple bad squeaks in my '64 Cadillac. Found some friction tape in the electrical isle at home depot, added it at some suspected places and voila I was back to that Cadillac quiet ride. I plan on using it in a couple spots on my mini clubman.

If you have rattles and clicks from the rear interior, try an experiment. Seriously, take the rear parcel/hatch shelf out. I have a rattle when it's clicked in place, and the rattle disappears completely when I install the shelf again.

My 2015 MCS was a solid car. Virtually zero rattles or buzzes anywhere. It was nearing the end of my 4th year of ownership that I noticed a slight buzz coming from the passenger door. My wife (riding "shotgun") applied a little outward pressure to the door handle and the buzz vanished. We were trading the car in for a 2019 so i didn't do anything to resolve the issue. I'm betting that I could slip a bit of cardboard or plastic shim somewhere around the passenger door handle and eliminated that slight buzz.

Overall, I was impressed with the fit and finish of the 2015 MCS. Hope the 2019 is as solid when it arrives.

Wife's R58 rattles, black interior/roof. Plastic dash/mirror/roof area is worst and shimmed it. My MCS ('15) not one rattle. Take that back. When the wife is in the car during previous drive, the passenger seatbelt buckle rattles between seat and side panel. I just reach over a give it a tug. No more rattle.

I think the only rattle I have is if the sunshade is fully back (open) in my 2018. Otherwise it's pretty quiet compared to my 2012 Justa. My 15 was rattle free as well. In winter however I will get a few plastic squeaks that will disappear when it heats up, or if I spray a small bit of silicone at the plastic joints.

WHen you guys are syaing that you fixed the rattle, what exactly are you doing? Taking things apart to find it? using tape?

One method is using something that can compress and provide rebound all the time. Like soft rubber or silicone strips (from maybe cutting a silicone kitchen hot handle protector). Things like cloth will eventually fully compress and stop being effective. Felt works well to retain it's rebound properties though. It's always a thought puzzle to identify squeaks and think through a remedy. I had a seat-belt attenuator that buzzed. I tried zip-ties, didn't work because it just seemed like the whole thing buzzed. I put a bunch of rubber bands around it (hidden kinda under the seat side) and it stopped. Using tiny rigid shims pushing plastic panels sideways until the squeak stops is less effective than using something with rebound properties.

I’ve had this and the passenger seatbelt make rattles so far, but that’s all for my first 5000miles

I had that too, it was the connector under the lock switch plate. A little piece of foam inserted, gone!!
