First post! So I just want to know if it's possible to add the paddle shifters to a mini cooper s auto. Or does that require buying a new steering wheel?
Did it to my wife's CM, purchased the JCW Steering Wheel off of eBay and had the dealer install it cause I couldn't get the airbag off. They couldn't do the coding though, but I was able to do that myself. Here is the link for you..
Hi, I have a 1.5Lt Auto Transmission Petrol Base Model MINI Cooper 2018 CountryMan F60. I wish to know if this coding is possible on my machine?. Is there any additional wiring that i need to do after i swap the steering wheel to the one with paddle shifters?. Can u please advice?.Thanks.

I was able to retrofit a JCW Steering Wheel with Paddle Shifters to my 2018 MINI Cooper CountryMan F60, that did not come with one.
I used BimmerCode app with OBD2 Veepack BT adapter and connected to my Car software> and set under> Expert Mode>Body Domain Controller>Paddles_Verbaut to Aktiv as default.
(Some have advised to use esys to enable Sports transmission, but in my case did not have to do that. Some also activate a feature called Launch Control using eSys, but i did not do that.I also did not have to do any additional wiring).
I purchased a used JCW MINI Cooper F60 steering wheel with Paddle shifters on eBay and swapped it to my regular one and everything works as intended.
To Swap wheel, I popped the airbag by pushing the 3 pins under it> disconnect battery> unplug the 2 airbag cables>Use 16mm wrench to carefully remove old wheel after disconnecting the plug<do all steps in reverse.
When i use the gear stick to shift gears, i see message S1<>S6, while with Paddles is see M1<>M6 on the 6WB digital instrument cluster.Awesome.
The F60 machine also auto selects/suggests gear change as we drive.
I am able to shift gears with Paddle shifters & the Gear Selector on the Green mode.
The JCW Steering wheel has the Red Stitch, Thicker & also has a Pad on the top to rest your thumb versus the regular wheel.
My 2018 F56S has the 6-speed auto. Is the 2TB sport upgrade available for this trans with Bimmercode, or is that only for the 7 or 8-speed? And if the 6-speed can be upgraded to 2TB, would it work without paddles? Mine does not have paddles, but I would like the 2TB sport trans upgrade, if possible. I will at some point add the JCW wheel with the paddles.

I have posted about this.
MY 2018 F60 1.5lt engine with 6 speed Auto Transmission did not come with Paddle Shifters.
I swapped my regular wheel with a used JCW wheel with its Paddle shifters.
I did not have to do anything else except activate "Paddle Shifters" under Body Domain Controller under "Expert Mode" on BimmerCode app.
Some say U need to activate 2TB transmission etc but in my case, i did not have to!.
For me, i just had to do one simple step coding with the BimmerCode app, that is all!!.
For the paddle shifters to work, you will need the built in wiring harness on your car that can enable this feature.
When You connect the BimmerCode app and if U see an option to activate Paddle Shifters under BDC, you must activate it and there is a high chance that your car has the wiring harness/potential for a retrofit of Paddle shifters.

Hope it answers your question.
Thank you. Yes, my plan is to swap to a JCW wheel with paddles at some point. I guess my real question is will the 2TB transmission "update" give me the quicker shifts without adding the JCW wheel with paddles? If so, I can code that in now to get the better shifts, and then code the paddles later once I get the wheel.
After changing some things in basic Bimmercode on my 2018 F56S, and nothing catastrophic happening, I decided to go into "expert mode" to see if activating paddle shifters also activates 2TB sport transmission in my 6-speed auto without paddles. Indeed, the shifts now feel much quicker and more firm when in manual mode. Now when I find and purchase a wheel with paddles, it should just be swap out steering wheels and the paddles should work. Correct?
Hi guys and girls.
there's a way to only install paddles from JCW SW to another car?
My cas is a 2020 Countryman SE All4, the steering looks very much with a JCW's, excluding logo and paddle shifters (image below), I found this used JCW steering wheel, cheap but the conditions arent the same as my original SW, and I dont think the red stitch fits a SE model.
So I just want to take the paddles of from JCW's and install on my OEM wheel
First things first........................do you have the cutout area on the back of the steering wheel to accept the paddles??? If so, you will need the paddles wiring harness that connects inside the wheel. Then you'll need to code the car to get the paddles active.

and If I unscrew all the back part of jcw, both sides, and attach to my sw?
If the cutouts are there, you will still need the internal wiring harness that fits inside the steering wheel. That harness connects the paddles together and connects to the system (inside the wheel). Then you need to code the car to recognize the paddles.
You just remove those molded pieces on our ECS aftermarket wheel as they are for with/without paddle shifters. Also you have a pretty nice/thicker wheel.

Yes, you could do this (it's the route I went down when I did mine not too long ago). FWIW, take your time going through Esys as to avoid the potential of clicking the wrong module to code and losing some of the functions/other coding you've already done.

As mentioned above, you'll need the proper reliefs on the back side of your steering wheel in order for the paddles to sit in as well as to screw into as well as the additional wiring harness referenced by ghstrdr and ECSTuning. If you have BOTH of those then you can code the paddles and they should work perfectly fine (optional if you want to code the 2TB sports transmission).
As for coding the 2TB sports transmission, it is NOT something that can be done through BimmerCode since you have to alter your Vehicle's VO in order to get the car to read the 2TB option.
So I talked to a friend of mine who’s a mini tech and I picked his brain about this. I already have all the stuff coming for it and he said the early “T” chassis cars(cars with last 7 starting with T) might not have the connector for the paddles in the clock spring and they’re have to be hardwired in, but can’t be fore sure because he’s never replaced or installed a set of paddle shifters in his whole time at the dealership. Guess I’ll find out when I yank the wheel of my 2014 F56S to find out. May have a jcw wheel with paddles for sale 🤣
🤣
