Flappy Paddles retrofit

When I bought the car, it was told to me only on Sport Transmission option.

Has anyone come up with a solution for the standard auto??

Unless you have deep pockets, I'm guessing not. Likely it would require an transmission and steering column swap.

pretty sure “sport transmission” is just coding. On bmws, you can activate paddles with/or without coding in the sport transmission.

to activate paddles, it should be in BDC

Paddles_verbaut = aktiv

but I haven’t tried it at all. For the paddle shifters, you would need a new steering wheel, the paddles, and wiring harness that is in the steering wheel. Cheapest thing to do would be to buy the complete steering wheel with the wires and shifters off eBay. In the new wiring harness of the wheel with shifters, there is one new wire. If our cars are already prewired for it, I guess you can just plug it into the existing connector, otherwise you would need to lead the new wire into the correct spot in the BDC.

This is is all speculation I guess, but this is the process for BMW F series cars. There are quite a few guides online

I already have the JC MF steering wheel.
I would need the paddles, $400 ouch!!

As MIN's past has shown, the wiring might be there.

the back of ur steering wheel can’t accommodate paddles. You’d need a new wheel with a different back

I never buy OEM parts from ECS. They can ALWAYS be found much cheaper. I usually order from minipartsmass.com as they seem to have the best prices. These paddles from them are $321 vs ECS's msrp price of $396.

I've been looking into the possibility of doing this as well. My gut tells me it most likely will not be doable because of the cost involved, but I still plan to remove the airbag and see what wiring is in our steering wheels. Also been looking at wiring diagrams to see what could be needed.

Also a new steering wheel might not be necessary, only a new rear cover for it, part #32306864891 . Still researching...

So, for you, there is only ONE and only automatic gear box ?
The only difference comes from the fact you've paddles...............or not ??
Or the sport transmission is really different from the standart one ?

There are all kinds of combinations. There is the normal auto tranmission and then the sport auto transmission. You can get paddles or no paddles with the sport transmission (not sure about the normal one)

The new one.
The "old" one ( which will desappear at the end of this year in Europe ) was a 6 speed

Hi there, the “sport transmission” is just a code to activate the paddle shifters.

A friend of mine is the manager of service at my local dealer and he told me they charge customers 400 USD to get the JCW steering plus the code to activate the paddles that come with it.

The dealer is Braman Mini Of Miami.

Are you sure about your price ??
Because I asked this afternoon the question to a french company, they told me:
450 USD for the steering wheel/400 USD for the paddles and the electric connections and a few little parts/ + the coding and the labour ( they haven't told me the price for this ) !!

I've bought a used steering wheel in england, through Ebay.
I'll receive it at the end of december and it will be fit/code in the beginning of january

Any update on this? I have a manual transmission car, but a family member has an automatic and I think this would be a nice upgrade.

Sorry, don't understand your first question !!
Concerning the second one:
325€ for the used steering wheels ( but looks like new ) on Ebay.
250€ for the coding.

Boubi

Did you have a JCW steering wheel before??

I have one, but I don't know if I can just buy the paddles.

No, I had the genuine steering wheel.

Normaly, you can buy/add the paddles separately.
But I'm not sure steering wheel for sport transmission ( with paddles ) and for classic automatic transmission, are the same !!
I think you have some parts that need to be change at the back !
Depend what kind of JCW steering wheel you have.............
