Dinan elite vs Dinan Sport

I have a brand new 2019 JCW that I just purchased a month ago. I'm wanting the boost the horse power. I was told that I might not be able to do the Dinan Elite due to the JCW being so new. But the sport shouldn't be a problem. Can anyone confirm this and or does anyone have a 2019 JCW with the elite with no issues? Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't installed my Elite unit yet, but I'm not anticipating any issues. I ordered mine from Way Motor Works, and specified/emphasized in my order that I have a 2019 JCW. They didn't indicate any possible issues, and I trust their (or his) judgement. I also did not see any warnings or disclaimers on the Dinan site FWIW.

Just have to make sure you get/order the post 12/2014 for the elite unit for the JCW. Make sure its the JCW part and not the Cooper S part. https://www.ecstuning.com/News/MINI_...F54_F57_24989/

Hey, I have the Dinan Elite on a 2016 JCW and it has been fantastic. About 2k miles on the unit so far, I had it installed by my regular Mini dealer, which is also a Dinan dealer and they did a great job. I'd say the car drives like stock, except smoother and a good amount more power. No regrets at all from this part.

You want part number D440-056 which is for 2015-2019 JCWs.

G26okie - how long did it take to do the install and what did they charge for the install? Did you order it from them too? How about fuel? Do you notice a quicker response to get up and go?

I'm trying to see if Way Motor Works has it in stock. But this is what he is showing and not the same part number D440-056 which is for 2015-2019 JCWs that you are referencing. https://www.waymotorworks.com/dinan-...ng-module.html

Thanks!

I ordered it through my dealer, they are a premier dinan dealer which is the highest tier and I just found it easy to go through them for everything. They charged $225 for the installation, yes pricey, but they did a very clean job and I didn't want any issues if I ever needed the warranty or something went wrong.

As for fuel, here in Florida we have 87, 89 and 93 octane, so any car I've had that needs premium only gets 93 top tier gas.

Performance and driving wise, it runs better than stock. Acceleration is very smooth, just more of it. Feels like an oem product. I also noticed it pulls much harder at higher rpms.

G26okie - thanks for the info. I understand the warranty factor. I just got my JCW in last month. Last thing I want to do is void the warranty out. But coming from a Porsche background and driving Porsches for decades I'm looking to give the JCW a little more UMP to the drive! But hands down I have more fun driving the JCW than the Porsche.

I just got off the phone with Mini and I was advised to hold off on doing the Diana Elite just for a bit. As my 2019 might have issues with it. I'm waiting to speak to another fellow at Mini to get the details. I'll post back when I finish up with them. The main person that I need to talk to at Mini is off today and will be back in tomorrow. I'll find out then. But I did speak to another service tech and he didn't see a problem with doing the install and has not heard of any known issues. I'll double check just to make sure considering it is a 2019 and maybe there is a software update or something.

I have not heard of any issues w/ the Elite and the Mini Motors B46/B48 (unless there have been significant changes to the B46/48 motors for 2019).

There are issues is the BMW B58 (I have one M240i) and mine has thrown 2 CEL's (and I do not drive my car hard at all). My codes were the same both times and they would have cleared on their own (after visiting the BMW dealership and codes were checked). Performance w/ the CEL was unaffected and the car still ran as well as w/o a CEL.

Others w/ the B58 motor have had continuing issues (some performance affecting CELs) to a point where Dinan has pulled the .v1 Elite from the market and now sells a .v2 in its place for $200 less ($1199 vs. $1399). Version 2 has less connectors and produces less torque than the Version 1. From what I've read, replacing the wiring harness can solve most issues w/ the .v1 (which is route my dealer is pursing). Those that still had issues w/ the new harness received .v2 tuners and have not experienced any problems (at least that I have read about) going forward..

Hope this helps. I.m guessing your guy heard about the Issue the BMW's were having w/ the B58 motor and cautioned you about the Elite for your Mini.

^^ Thats my guess also. We have the JCW version in stock and free shipping. Install is easy and if you can install an intake you can install one of these. Just watch those part numbers and the year split.

Thank you for the detailed post, it's most appreciated. I'll be going down in the morning to Mini. I also called Dinan, and they have heard of no problems with the 2019 JCW and Dinan.

One question you or someone might be able to answer? I had to custom order my JCW. And had to special order the JCW performance exhaust. I assume the tune was included with the JCW performance exhaust?. Does anyone know the Horse Power of my JCW by any chance? Crazy as it sounds I don't have any documentation from the dealer of the Horse Power. Some of the additions that I custom ordered were not even on the build out sheet which was strange too.

+1^ the JCW exhaust tuning kit on a factory JCW is no additional tune. It uses the factory tune.

I spoke to the service manager this afternoon explaining to me that it would be no problem with the install and should not cause any problems. It was also noted from him too that it would NOT void the warranty.

I'll be getting this done sometime in the next week or two depending if I have to go out of town this upcoming week.

Congrats on going forward. Let us know what you think after the install. I'm confident your car will be a little rocket when they are done.

Yep. Note the need for an egg under the right foot... illustrated here for the technically minded.

Happy New Year.

Thank you guys and I also need to post pics of my JCW. I got her in Nov 2019 and still haven't posted pictures. Just a tad over 300 miles loving every minute of her. Never seen rain yet, been garage parked at all times.

I've tried finding an install video of the Dinan Elite on youtube.com but with no such luck. Anyone know of an existing video out there? I might attempt to do the install myself to save $260 from Mini which is their install cost. I plan to place an order this week and get this installed on the JCW!

Dinan website has install instructions. Pretty simple, you really don't need a video. Should be less than an hour for someone without experience. Probably 20 minutes for someone who does this stuff all the time.

Minnie,

I did this about six weeks ago, I question the amount of time you propose for someone who's never done it before. While, yes, it should take an hour, but (at least for me) just getting the battery exposed enough to undo the negative terminal (as recommended in the instructions) was a 30 minute task, taking pictures and notes about everything that had to come apart. If I'd done it before, sure, it'd go fast, but it took a surprising amount of dismantlement to get to that darned battery terminal. Then there's the cussing time for sliding back the little grey latch lock on each connector, the time under the car with the flashlight looking for it after it's gone flying, etc.

It would be nice if someone made a video.

$260 to install a dinan that is crazy. Maybe I should up my price since we do it for free with purchase.
So telling you they will warranty it if they install is a poor sales tactic as the part won't operate any different installed by the dealer or but anyone else.

Also it is illegal for a dealer to void your warranty for a mod. They can't say if they install it they will warranty it, and if someone else does it they won't warranty it. The Magnuson-Moss protects consumers and requires they MUST prove an aftermarket part has caused a failure they are not warranting. They can't just say because you have it there isn't warranty.
