Today I took off my side scuttle covers and noticed their was this weird black stuff stuck to my car. (see pictures)

Does anyone know what this is? How do I get it off?

Use a hair dryer to soften it, then a soft plastic scraper.
Follow up with Goo Gone.

You might have to reapply some, as it is also anti vibration.

The sun softens it a little but not enough to just easily scrape it off. I'm putting some good amount of muscle behind it to get it off still.

Not sure if the GooGone is helping. Any other suggestions?

Did you try the hair dryer or heat gun as suggested? Never tried this 3M Automotive 8987 - General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner but it seems like the right product.

I've had some luck getting a few adhesives off with WD40.

When scuttles are put on by Mini they use and adhesive. Guys doing a self install generally use a 3M double sided tape w/ is fairly easy to remove.

I'd follow the advice above and see if it won't peel off.

It's called Betalink, and its a hell of a glue. Everything I've read says that it has to be "mechanically removed" i.e. sanded or ground off. BMW has a solvent that comes with the kit (82699408866KT) but its for cleaning up freshly applied glue, not sure it would work on dried glue.

WELLLLLP.

I've got one side done, I did use the hair dryer and it wasn't really helping. I think the issue is that it was too thin.

GooGone + the backside of a sponge seemed to be the best tool to get it off but I did end up scraping the hell out of my paint.

At this point I have 2 option...
1. put scuttle covers back on
-or-
2. vinyl wrap that section black

What should I do?

You need to use a heat gun, not a hair dryer, it doesnt get hot enough.

He's what I did when I worked at my buddies vinyl shop with this

1 - Spray 3m adhesive remover on the black stuff and let it soak in.
2 - Spray it again, let it soak
3 - Spray it again and now add heat. Start at the low setting of the heat gun
4 - Get a vinyl scraper and you will be able to scrap that stuff off because the heat and the adhesive remover will be breaking down that stuff
5 - When its all off, spray it with the remover again and wipe with a rag.
6 - Use a scratch remover compound to get rid of the scratches, polish next, finally wax

Since its off, just do step 6 to get rid of the scratches on the paint
