He should give you the red card that comes with the kit after entering the date and VIN number in the appropriate blanks. This card has the Tuning Kit number on it.
While the software is set up, take approx 2 hours, to reach each control unit, all the factory datas are stored and implemented by MINI Online, your car gets registered automaticly.
I had my Independent Mini/BMW Certified technician order and install mine. He has the BMW software on his computer so he will do it all in-house for a lot less than the dealer. He also installed and programmed my BBK for me.
I am really leaning towards the MCS instead of JCW and then getting this upgrade. I also will likely get the Brembo's after market..
Is the tuning kit different than what comes on the JCW? If not, then it would make sense to go with the JCW instead of the JCW? The cost difference is approx $6K..
With the JCW you get the B48 motor vs the B46 in the MCS. Basically the same motor, but with some subtle differences. Also, with the JCW you get the little auxiliary radiator for additional cooling, but at the expense of losing the fog lights. I went with a very low mileage CPO MCS and heavily modified it myself for a lot less than what a new JCW would have cost. I also got a 5yr/75K mile warranty. YMMV
