Leaking fluid from rear view mirror/rain sensor

Found this today on my 2015 mcs. It has been in the mid to high twenties for the past couple days. Car has been parked outside. It's a clear liquid, semi oily. Couldn't smell anything due to the current cold I'm having. Any ideas what and where it's coming from? This is the best picture I could take, you can see it if you look.

Thanks, Charlie

Someone in another post mentioned it's a gel pack for the rain sensor, whatever that means.

Take it in and your warranty will cover it. I had the same issue.

Yeah, it's the rain sensor gel pack. I don't know why they can't get this right. I replaced mine for the second time, and I doubt it's a permanent fix. The second time I replaced it, it wasn't even parked under the sun, the car was barely driven mostly parked in a 15-20C garage.

The dealer was very nice to replace the part and provide a loaner though.

Thanks guys. You said you weren't parked in the sun... Is that what they are claiming causes it? It's been below freezing here. I'd say heat isn't the issue

What they said. I'm on my 4th one. I was told back in June/July that MINI was working on a fix, and I was put on a list to get it. Just replaced it again a month or so ago.

Can't believe how they can't find a fix for this. Does anyone know if there's a problem if there's air bubbles inside the rainsensor where the gel pack leaked out from?

I can't either. This has been going on since launch. I guess Mini has done the math and figured it's cheaper to inconvenience the owners and replace these gel packs as they fail instead of creating a fix.

I remember taking a photo from the outside of the windshield about the gel leaking and air bubbles trapped inside the sensor but I don't know what I did with those photos. I might have deleted them after getting it serviced. I'll see if I can take a photo of it again when I have time. Mine has been replaced second time and it hasn't leaked again yet but I see there's air bubble trapped inside the sensor.

Just a thought, but maybe it leaks more easily if there's any air inside which might expand and shrink depending on the temperature.

i have mine windshield replaced and since then my rain sensor not working due to bubbles... i have researched all over the net, try many methods and finally i succeeded by just sticking the sensor using clear silicone. no bubbles! now it works like new however the only worry is would it stand the heat under the sun with 70C+ inside the car...
