Current R56 owner - deciding to upgrade to the R57 or the F57 - Help!

Hi guys,

I currently own a Mini Cooper R56. I drove it for the last 8 years and love it. But like all good things, I am ready to upgrade to a convertible which is something I always wanted.

I saw a good deal on a demo 2015 R57 that is 8-9K off its retail price. My biggest dilemma is that it is the last year of its generation. And since it is technically very similar to my R56... I don't know if it is worth the upgrade.

I wouldn't mind waiting for the F57 but I have a feeling it will be quite expensive...more expensive than probably the current model just because its a new generation.

For $8000, do you guys think its worth the difference between the two generation to wait? or no..?

Any input is much appreciated. Thanks!

I am not sure if $8000 off on a loner is any better than any other CPO.

How about first deciding which you like better, second or third gen Minis.

Then if you decide on a Gen3 what about a third option, wait 2 years and purchase a used F57?

R57 if you can get a Highgate edition or maybe a Factory JCW.

The F57 will be a leap in comfort and technology, plus that new engine shared in the F56.

Hi
Thank you for the replies! I think I will wait for the F57 because of the upgraded technology and different engine. Makes more sense than getting the F56 since I have the R56 already. Thank you once again and Happy new year!

Wait for the new car.

I have a 2015 and I love it but whenever my car is in for routine service, I like to hop in an F56 (2-door hardtop) sitting on the dealership showroom floor and the interior is noticeably more premium than my R57.

Yes, there will be much improvements to the interior based off the press photos.

You should be able to order a 2016 now. When my wife and I went to order her Hardtop, they had two allocations for the new convertible. We could have placed an order for one if we wanted. Supposed to come in about April.

This will be great to see in person. yea most dealerships get allocations of a couple launch editions. Bigger the dealer , more spots.

Tough call...I just got my 2014 R57 and every now and again I think maybe I should have held out and waited for the newer model to come out. I was in a similar situation and ended up buying the used car...it only had 405 miles on it and had tons of features most of which I would never spring for. More importantly it was definitely in my budget I think I would be priced out of the a brand new convertible.

Like someone else mentioned my used MINI is a Highgate which I definitely helped nudge me into buying it vs waiting. If you're not in a rush you might as well wait and see. Who knows maybe you'll be able to get an even better deal on a used one once they 2016's start hitting the dealership.

Highgate is a great option for the R57, love the seats and the paint. Hard to find sometimes.

The F57 should look much better in person and has cool paint and interior options. Tough choice vs those two.
