Question about the Electronic Oil Dipstick

Hi Guys,

I had a question regarding the electronic oil dipstick on my car...

When I took delivery, I swear that my MINI salesman showed me that you could see the specific oil level on a line, similar to a dipstick, whether you were a little low or a little high.

However, when I go into the computer and start a detailed measurement with a warm engine + in park, it won't show me the accuracy of the reading. All it does is go from 0% to 100% in an instant and says "Engine Oil OK"

I don't care if it's "OK"; I care about how much or how little oil is in the engine.

Does anyone know how I can see the oil level on a measurement line/scale?

The owners manual says that I can see it on a scale too, but I can't figure out for the life of me how...

BTW, my car has the standard AM/FM radio, not the MINI Connected setup.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

-Ryan

I'll have to have a look at it again, but on the basic screen it shows a bar and your oil level along the bar, but I don't think it shows the max line. It says "max".

Thanks for the input guys...

I drove home from work today (its right around a 30 min drive but there was traffic so it was more like 45 min) and parked the car on level ground.

Started the measurement, and everything performed beautifully this time (3/4 of the way to max ).

I guess I had to get the engine good and hot before it would commit to doing an accurate reading. Very cool technology...I just wish it had told me "Hey, I'm not warm enough yet!" haha.

Thanks for all your help!

-Ryan

I don't like it a 3/4. Mine hasn't moved except when I had a problem it was down near 1/2.

Thanks for posting the picture...that's about what mine looks like (maybe it's closer to 7/8).

This level of oil looks just fine to me. As long as I'm close to the upper hash mark I'll rest easy

Im assuming the hash mark on the left is the add line, and the one on the right is ok?? Still not confident with it!
