A.S.S. + Manual Transmission

After not using it for seven or eight months, I've started using Auto Start-Stop again, and just as before, in certain frequent stop and go situations, the engine stalls during take-off. Has anyone worked out a technique to prevent this from happening? I pretty much shift to neutral whenever I'm stopped, even briefly.

It's almost as though the system needs a delay added to ensure that it's a "true" stop, before activating. It can't keep up with real-time situations, or at least that's my feeling on the subject.

Any known coding options that affect A.S.S. behaviors? It just needs some adjusting.

While I have never switched off the auto stop/start, I generally don't allow it to kick in (by going to neutral and releasing the clutch) unless I am pretty sure that I have at least 30+ seconds of wait in front of me. I do this because in my opinion, if the wait time is less than 30 seconds, I may not get any mileage benefit by stopping the engine AND it has to restart which may have a negative effect in the long term. Nothing scientific or even fact based about my approach. It's just what my little dinosaur brain has worked out.

What this does often result in is having to hold down the clutch for much longer that I had thought. So much for analysis.

Whoever thought that one up needed a second job. I drove my friends' F56 with that in it and thought it was horrible. I'd pay extra to not have that feature on my car. Gas is cheap.

There is a bulletin out for the 14 Coopers to get the ECU redone as the software was initiallizing shut off's at low speeds instead of stops, happened to my wife several times and freaked her out pretty bad as it almost caused an accident once. I keep it off in mine but she always has it on and in green, averaging 41.8mpg MY S averages 29.9 but then I drive like a bat out of hell and my car is always in Sport.

Oh lovely, you save $10 a month in gas money but you get in an accident when the car shuts off in traffic. What a crock. And you paid money to have that feature on your car? Jeez.

Exactly my approach as well. Very easy to manipulate, it quickly becomes second nature. Personally I like it.

Do you really mean the condescending tone of your post? Does your car have this feature? (not an f55/f56)

I have an automatic and my A.S.S. works flawlessly. Regardless if anyone uses it, it still comes standard in the car. If you don't like it, there's a shiny little switch in the center console to turn it off. MINI even stuck a cute little LED light in the switch for those that don't shine as bright.

I think the bulletin only applied to automatic transmission cars. (?)

Sounds like it needs reflashed. Most Start/ Stop F56 models I have drove worked fine. I tuned it off after a while.
