A short in my usb?

Anyone else experiencing this?

Sometimes, when I connect my iPhone 6 to the USB, I get a constant cycling of "on/off/on/off." Jiggling or slightly moving the USB end of the cord seems to sometimes help stabilize it. This doesn't happen every single time though. I'm pretty sure it's the jack itself, as it's an Apple-made lightning cable, but more importantly, I have a 2A USB charging port in the CLA, and that works every time, without issue.

If my USB jack were flaky, I wouldn't care that much, but unfortunately, it's needed to use MINI Connected, and I use Web Radio a great deal!

Is the USB jack easily removed? Anyone know how? If it is, I might try swapping it myself for another one.

Yes, it is very easy to remove and replace. I bought new one from Mini for around $50 when I bent mine. They just pop out.

Have you tried using a different cable? I would really try that first. My first thought based on your description is a short in the cable, though your comment that it charges okay when the cable is plugged into your CLA is interesting.

If it turns out it is actually the jack, get MINI to replace it for you. It would be under warranty.

Went on the BIMMERFEST and looked there. Same issue reported, and no consensus about which is the culprit: cable or socket.

Today, for example, it started off doing it, then settled down, and I listened to Web Radio the whole ride in to work.

Pops out, then hangs, attached by a cord, or what exactly? Is there a quick-disconnect there?

I've noticed something, sometimes, but I haven't decided on the cause.

I've had this intermittently as well - seems to have gotten better as the weather gets a little warmer here... I'm using the original Apple cable, and it is quite knotted up at the connector point; but now that I'm hearing people with similar issues, I'm beginning to suspect the USB jack.

I honestly don't know. It seems like the jack itself is very "picky." I'm already using an Apple cable. I may try another Apple cable, but not sure if it will even matter. Some say it does. Swapping out the USB may not matter. It could be a software issue (whose?)? Not sure what to try.

Yeah, there are a couple quick disconnects on the back. One for the AUX jack one for the USB.

I think your specific cable may have a loose connection inside. Do you have another Apple cable you can try?

New cable seems to have solved the problem. It's still too early to say for sure, but I haven't seen the rapid connect/disconnect phenomenon since the swap. Fingers-crossed…
