C/D long-term update on MCS

"Rattletrap," according to the review.

Rattling Mini. I'm shocked ;-)

http://blog.caranddriver.com/our-lon...and-um-rattle/

In seriousness I'm starting to get a couple rattles here and there, and agree with their assessments as to the causes.

Mine makes quite a few noises with only 3k miles on it but there's only a couple that drive me INSANE!!!
My steering has also started making a creeking noise when doing sharp turns at low speeds when cold. Sounds painful.
It was already in the shop for a few days to replace the control arm bushing and I've only had it 3 months so I don't wanna give it up again for a couple noises that they'll probably say they can't hear or get the old "they all do that".

13k miles on mine. Not too bad with rattles, but I'm getting that weird creaking at slow speed in the cold as well! Anyone know what this is?

Add me also! I also have that low speed creeping sound when cold, though after 8,000 miles I don't have many rattles. I was actually surprised by how quiet this car has been, it doesn't have anywhere near as many rattles as my old 2010 Acura TSX with 80K miles had!

I'm starting to hear some rattles on mine too. Mine has less than 500 miles. I hate rattles, but I only paid 23k so... hmm. I would be really mad if I spent over 30k and find rattles.

Rattles starting to form near the light controls on the roof. I don't have sunroof option.

My creaking is coming from the door seals or sunroof seal as I go over any bumps at any angle. Sounds like a refrigerator door seal as you open the door. Is this what you guys are hearing or is mine different?

I'll never go back to anything under a 55 or 60 series tire unless I'm strictly tracking a car. Streets are just too messed up and I've hit potholes that bend rims with 45 series tires. No thanks. No sports suspension either thank you. My 2012 Coop has un-glamorus 15's but glides over bumps with nary a sound.

I've found that spray silicone (plastic friendly) works wonders in the winter when sprayed around the speedo cluster and tach. Also use it on door seals and around sunroof facing.

When brand new in April, I noticed a squeak/creak from the driver's door when the car gets a sharp jolt. Figured the door needed tightening, but no help, so I figure it's the window glass that's slightly loose. Rarely, the trim around the center round thing in the dashboard squeaks.

I'd say the car is about as tight as the VW CC I traded in (not bad), but our 2014 Mazda CX-5 is much more solid (rock solid) than either.

Dunno. My BMW had 0 rattles after 118,000 miles. And my A4 was tight after 90k. Infiniti less so but still solid.

I was hoping BMW could figure out how to keep this car tight a bit longer than its predecessors.

I'm at 2600 miles (2015 MCS) and the only rattle I get is from the passenger seat belt occasionally clattering around. Hoping it stays that way as I add more miles.

I'm at 17k now on my F56. Rattles, rattles everywhere. The optional 18" wheels are not helping the situation.

5k miles on a 2014 MCS zero rattles. Impressive for living in Belgium.

That's not really impressive. Cars are not supposed to rattle in the first place unless they are built real cheap. My 2000 Saab 9-5 with 120k miles, 2007 Hyundai Elantra with 70k miles, and my 2014 Mazda CX-5 with 9000 miles didn't rattle at all. I had a 2000 Elantra that did rattle.

As my car has gotten broken in, I feel like most of the rattles and noises have disappeared.

Be curious to know how many of you with rattles have the sport suspension and/or 40 or 45 series tires?

I purposely went with the 16" and no sport suspension because I didn't want to shake it apart. I know being ridiculously cold isn't helping but these sounds started before temperatures went below freezing.

I have 3500 miles, the Sport Suspension and 17" cosmos spokes and do not have a single rattle yet, my R55 S with 110000 miles, sport suspension, 17" wheels and LSD doesn't have any rattles either; however, my first R55 S had a ton of rattles after 15000 miles!

Car & Driver, IIRC, did a long-term report on a Countryman several years ago and rattles was a complaint. After reading that, it was only after I learned about the all-new F56, that I considered buying my MCS. You'd hope BMW is seriously attacking a problem like this.

In fairness to mini, my rattles are really very minor creaks. I have 9500 miles. I had a loaner coupe with 8200 miles on it and it had some truly irritation creaks and rattles, particularly from the rear deck. So this is an improvement.
