New 2014 MCS key

What is the process and cost for ordering an additional (new)
key for my MCS?

Here at prestige MINI in Ramsey NJ, we require proof of ownership of the vehicle (usually drivers license and registration), it takes about one day to order and is around $200 for both the remote and slide in insert key.

Hope this helps, any other questions please let me know.

Hey chris.
does mini sell just the back cover? The piece where it has the Mini logo stamped on it?

Mine is chipped while I was removing the cover the other day.

Thanks Chris.
Is that for a completely functioning key, or does there need to
be some programming done after the key is received?

Unfortunately MINI only sells the key remote as a whole unit.

With the F56 there is no additional programming needed. When you recieve the new key, you hold it up to the key symbol near the dashboard on the righthand side of the steering column (where usually a ignition key would go), proceed to start the car as normal with the toggle switch and the new key will be recognized.

Again, hope this helps

Oh... Whole unit as in the fob and slide out key?
Can you order just the fob without the key?

To clarify, the fob is sold separately from the slide in/out laser cut key.

You can buy the round cover.

So, the F56's fob is horrible! It's bulky, cheap and the buttons are nearly useless by touch.

So, now that it's so easy to replace, is replacing it with a superiorly-built, slimmer, more user-friendly 3-series fob possible?

Is that much smaller or better made than the centre of the MINI fob?

You can see that the locking button could be more easily found by touch, and you've got to admit that the central part of the MINI fob (with the useless round bit removed) is quite ugly.

I would love to know the answer to that question. I hate my bulky key! If anyone has done this, please let me know!
