The "on board computer" at the time of the sale of the car according to the dealer and corp. I would have to upgrade to the "Loaded Package" in order to receive the "On Board Computer". I think that the on board computer was Standard Equipment for USA customers but certainly not for Canadian Customers...SURPRISE for me.

My "bc" button ONLY gives me "Engine Temp".........and that is it. Nothing else comes up, no other menu options are displayed. I know how it works from using it on my 2013 and 2008 models.

It says it's for the F56.

When you look for the R56 on message boards it says the code is the sum of the last five digits of your VIN.

 

I was just confused, cuz the heading of that website says F56 S and the photo shows R56 display. So I was not sure based on the contradiction.

 

I emailed the dealer tonight asking for other options than the one proposed.
I also mentioned your suggestion of the software upgrade. I will wait again for answer. I will keep you all informed. thanks !

I received a reply this a.m. "I have forwarded the part number to service for verification and will let you know once I hear back from them."

 

Update...today....@hammerhands....you were certainly correct with our suggestion....look at the response I just received. Only available to US Customers !...Can you imagine this response....I am livid !!!! Another roadblock. What to do ? Sit and wait ? Or take the GPS ?

It's not a U.S. retrofit, the computer comes standard in the U.S.

Sometimes you need to ask the right person, that person may be in Germany.

I ordered a BRG 3-cylinder automatic,
the Essentials Package,
deleted the sunroof,
added the sports suspension,
the HK and the storage package.

Actually my SA told me squat. Was I not told about no digital KM/hr display not being in my Justa after it was displayed in my test drive.....NO.

How am I supposed to know what is and isn't included without a professional SA to advise me ??? That is their job after all isn't it ?

Well, as you can see in the following link, I was trying to figure out what the OBC was, and if it included the digital speedometer.

When I had my test drive I think I still equated the OBC vaguely with the larger center instrument displays.

I can't remember exactly, but I was told by my salesperson that all the cars had the digital speedometer, the OBC was for other functions like how many miles you had left in the tank.

 

I am just learning that the Basic Justa with no OBC does not have the digital KM per hour on it. Even the dealer has confirmed this to me last week...well after I ordered the car and had it for a couple of days that I am informed.....a little late.

I do not have the digital speedometer on my car.

I noticed that when I set the cruise control, it shows the speed I set the cruise at.

I said to my salesman that I had heard a rumour that I wouldn't have the digital speedometer, to which he seemed a little surprised. Another salesman or service person jumped in the car to look at the settings and they agreed that I do not have it. Then the salesman said he had another customer who also does not have it, to which I was a little surprised.

I asked the service department about the on-board computer retrofit part number and they said it was listed as no longer available. They said they would contact BMW to enquire about it.

My next idea is to contact a dealer in the US.

But I've been driving a car with an analog speedometer for the last 9 months and on the way home I hardly missed it, but you can't really dial in an exact kph without it.

Tonight I will plug in my OBDII device and see if my car shuts off at highway speeds!

 

They finally gave me an answer the other day, the retrofit computer is Europe only.

So it's coding, hacking, or forget about, I guess.

 

If this feature was absolutely critical why did you take delivery without confirming it worked?

I recently bought a 2014 Mini Cooper F56 Base and as you all i get is the temperate gauge when pressing my BC button. Did you manage to get this recoded to allow all the other information?
