Drivetrain Malfunction- Misfire

So on my way to Galveston this weekend, my Mini had a little lurch while accelerating (slowly), then I heard a "pop", followed by an "Engine Malfunction- reduced power" warning. In my old 335i this was known (a little too well) as limp mode. I shifted the car into neutral, turned it off, and restarted. The check light was on for a second and then it went off, never to return the rest of the trip. When I got home tonight I borrowed a code reader from a friend. It showed a P0300 (multiple misfires), followed by a P0303 (cylinder 3), and P0304 (cylinder 4). Obviously this isn't normal. I'm going to give my service manager a call in the morning, but in the meantime, you guys care to hypothesize and investigate?

My mini is just shy of 12,000 miles.

It seems there are re-programming instructions for a myriad of symptoms.
My guess is that's what you'll get initially.

Carbon buildup on the intake valves this soon?

Only thing I can think of that would cause an intermittent misfire.

Actually the car has already had that done once.

I wouldn't think so, at least hope so!

Highly unlikely. It's either electronic, fuel related or a vacuum leak of some sort.

Literally had this same thing happen to me about two weeks ago so I assume it's going to become a common issue now. I got my car back from the dealer about a week ago, and I'm pretty sure all they did was programming stuff. But I know they were talking with Mini Engineers about the issue which is why it took so long. The car seems to be running fine now and I've tried to replicate what I did before my car did the same and it hasn't done it. By the way mine was a 14 S.

Bump.

I never heard back from my service advisor first go around.

The car has done it again, but this time over a two day period. First when I was driving to Louisiana and again when I went to the store for my sister the following day. This time it was much worse, like hitting a brick wall. The car almost stalled. The only code this time was for a misfire on cylinder #4.

Looks like a service appointment is in my future. :/

So limp mode is quite fun with a roof box, 25 mph gusts, pouring rain, and almost 700 miles. At some points during the trip back the fastest I could go was barely 55 mph where the speed limits are 75.

Took it into the dealer two weeks ago. They found faults for multiple misfires, a combustion misfire, and cylinder 4's injection shut off.

Their remedy was reprogramming via SI M12 11 14.

This appeared to do the trick till today. The misfire is back! While not consistent like it was over Christmas, it is still doing it and I'm out of town again. Awesome!

my car is a 2015 mcs and it keeps dieing completely and says drivetrain malfunction and wont restart the first try just cranks over. then i have to mess with menu and keyfob then it starts up with check engine lite on for half a day. mine is the b46 motor. i can run it hard after it dies once until the next day or later. it sucks dieing in the middle of the street in my brand new car. thanks mini!

Nothing. Mini said to bring it in when it throws a light again. At this point I'm completely convinced something is getting wet as my problem seems to happen either during or after it rains while driving down the road.

Now I've checked everything I can to look at to see if some electrics are getting wet, but so far the coils and injector plugs are bone dry. I've been meaning to put a call into MiniNA to see if they have any other solutions because reprogramming and reprogramming doesn't seem to be doing the trick.

This sounds a bit different than my issue. I hope you have called your nearest dealer for them to take a look at it.

F56 misfiring? Wasn't this a bad problem on the R56 known as super knocking? Are these cars lemons too?

Nope still hasn't been resolved. Dealers keep reprogramming to make it go away, the most recent of which was 3 weeks ago. The car is just shy of 26k.

Mini is now involved to get to the bottom of it.

I'd guess it's a faulty fuel injector.
