Getting PO'ed. Where are our 2015 cars?

So, there were over 15 million new cars and sold last year in the US.

That's 300,000 cars that need to be delivered to dealers every week.

So I've heard that there's either 1000 cars (all ports) or 1000 cars at the west coast port backed up to be delivered.

You've had months to plan this.

We're more than a week into the cars being released.

Where are the cars?

Where is my car?

And if I call you to ask why it's 10/10, the OL said 10/7, and you can't tell me when it's going to be shipped, somebody in logistics needs to be caned and the canned.

Friday night pissed.

Yeah the Owner's Lounge said 10/8 for my delivery date... I talked to the manager at my local dealer today and he said they haven't received any 2015's yet

Just posted this to Mini FB page:

The EPA delay mess is being made worse by who ever is handling getting these cars shipped now that they are released. You've had weeks to months to plan the logistics for shipping these cars when the release happens. So when I get a date in the Owners Lounge of estimated delivery date of 10/7, and the end of the day 10/10 comes and no car, and I call 866-ASK-MINI and they can't give me any further information, like a new estimate, it's even more frustrating than the original delay. Why even bother with an estimated date?

---------------

I've been really understanding on the original mess / delay. But after this delay, I expect there to be a good plan in place for getting things back to "normal". And I doubly expect that they better be damn sure of dates given -- under promise and over deliver is a good axiom to follow after a major foobar.

We're in the same boat. OL says Oct 6th, of course that did not happen. ASK-MINI has no clue. The dealer said today (nope!) or Saturday morning. We'll see shortly. Meanwhile my dealership has 3 2015's arrive that are un-sold stock cars. So all that talk about shipping sold cars first and first-in first-out was BS. Saturday we plan to sell the old car and hope (maybe we are being foolish) that the new car will arrive on Saturday or over the weekend and we can get it Monday at the latest.

Just when I thought I saw light at the end of this long tunnel they manage to jack it up again.

Happened to talk to our saleschick yesterday. She said "You were lucky", i.e. our car showed up on their lot over the 4-5 Oct weekend. Then nothing since. They're looking for around 60 total between stock and sold.

Having worked in the production planning and logistics software biz for a few years, this sounds to me like utter unplanned chaos. If the whole business were run like this, they'd never sell a single car.

I totally agree, I don't understand why shipping is such a mess when they had extra weeks/months to plan. It irritates me even more that dealers are getting cars when we were assured customer cars would be shipped first. I sent an email to MINI to see if I can get any answers.

I think part of the problem is that they moved the backlog of sold cars to an off-site location. Some rented hanger space in Florida. I doubt they have any VDC employees there. So when the green flag was waved the un-sold cars at the VDC were low hanging fruit and they stuck them of trucks, maybe with BMWs and sent them off. They probably had to go out of their way to get the sold cars that they PROMISED they would ship FIRST and the trucks that are used to going to the VDC maybe didn't know where this hanger was and why bother. So trying to be helpful to the sold customers they ended up messing things up a bit.

Now the OL says our car will be ready for pick up on the 13th after saying the 6th just earlier today. It looks like it did make it to the dealer but they can't get to it until Monday. Thank God this is almost over.

I'm a cynic and see the situation a bit differently. I think they promised to deliver sold cars first with the best of intentions. Then someone noticed that dealers had no cars to sell so things got re-prioritized to get them stock. Most customers aren't on forums and only go by the OL (a step above useless) and their sales people (not always honest by my experience) so delivering non-sold cars wouldn't be noticed by many people. Customer cars were pretty solidly sold so the risk was minimal.

I don't believe MINI is that incompetent to mix up deliveries which could be planned months in advance. I know people in shipping and they're freaking geniuses at getting things from point A to point B on time. I have to believe BMW is at least as good as people I know in those logistics. So my conclusion is a re-prioritization occurred and customers moved down the list.

OL still says a delivery date of 10/8 for me

I went back through my records and looked at when I first sent in the configuration we wanted.

It was March 4th, 2014. So I guess another few days won't kill us after 7.5 months...

I can see your point. Other Mini dealerships in Houston are reporting 2015's in stock. But I noticed the ones at my dealership are not even prepped and still have the wrapping on. I stopped by our dealership and her car is back in the service area waiting to be prepped first thing on Monday.

We'll probably never know for sure. Mini certainly isn't putting out a press release.

It might be on a ship, already. It took a while for my OL status to change.

Getting this thread back on track

Mini Customer Relations -> Zero

Dealer -> Improved

Corporate customer relations left FB reply to email them. I did, giving them desk and cell number. Been away from desk all day, but no call ever on cell phone. Received email "tried to contact you, please call us". Called them. Useless call, just got me wound up again. Bottom line is they have zero new information. Why bother contacting me if you have no information? That was the whole point of my post to FB that wrong and outdated information is worse than no information (well, if there was no estimated date at all that would be bad, but the date they put should have had "slack" so it wouldn't be missed).

Phone call complaint to customer relations apparently did trigger the dealership manager to call me, who I told I wasn't mad at them, but at corporate. He told me he had no issues with me complaining to corporate, "if it helps improve the situation, great, because it's messing them up too".

The way we stand now, dealer will contact me when he has notice it's on a truck. No idea if that will be tomorrow, or next year.

But if it is next year, I may just forget about the while new Mini for a while. Which would be a shame because as it plays out, it's going to be a seriously good deal to be walking away from. But I'm very, very frustrated right now...

Very frustrating. I get a different story from everyone. Dealer has no info and is tired of me asking so they said they will call me when it arrives. ASK MINI says it has been released to shipper but has not left port yet. Corporate Mini (in an email) says it will be processed tomorrow (whatever that means).

Corporate Mini also told me that the S models did not clear until 10/8. I thought the manuals cleared on 10/1??

They were. A picture is worth a thousand words so here is a picture of the truck that carried my 2015 F56 Justa (blazing red with its behind facing us in the pic). If you zoom, you can see the last car on the lower level is an S. (double exhaust) I know for a fact there was at least one other S parked in the line when I went to seem mine shortly after unloading.

Sorry about the troubles. I think Waggoner does not have a good real time tracking system. Our dealer called us Saturday when they initially expected the car to tell us that Waggoner told them they had not yet picked it up. What?!??!? We were really pissed since we had just got back from selling her old car. Then not even an hour later they called and said it just got delivered! Boy that is a fast truck! So it could show up when they don't even expect it. We picked up ours today and I posted over in your thread.
