F55/F56 F56 Cooper S Automatics released from jail!
We're getting 26 mostly around town w/air, So Cal. approx 2000 miles
What the hell is so different from the '14 to give those numbers? I'm getting a combined 30.5 mpg in my MCS and I'm not exactly babying it.

Such a wide variety of results (based on this and other mpg threads).
Some heavy footers in S swear to get 40+ in the city running stoplight to stoplight with their right foot permanently stuck all the way down.
Some grandpa-style drivers in Justa barely get 20 on the highway on a flat road in green mode with a/c off.
Honestly, I can't find general consensus on F56 mileage. Never seen such widely varying reports on any other car. I guess I'll find out when I buy mine.

Here is my mpg over the initial 5k miles. The average is 39.5 mpg. I no longer track in this much detail, but calculate it per tank when I fill up. I average 38-42 mpg and have a little over 10k miles on the car.

I suspect the biggest reason for the drop is that the 2014 numbers were the result of doing the test in ECO mode. BMW states in Para 15.2.9 that most of their customers set their cars in ECO mode so this is the rationale they used to do the testing. But this isn't the default mode of the car and I seriously doubt most BMW owners are setting the mode to ECO after they start the car. I think EPA requires the testing to be done in the default mode.
"15.2.9. Corporate Average Fuel Economy Calculation
Since the 2007 model year and in accordance with Dear Manufacturer letter CCD-02-10, BMW performs customer vehicle surveys that downloaded select-shift transmission usage data during service at authorized BMW dealers.
BMW has determined that the automatic BMW models equipped with select-shift transmissions will be operated predominantly in the economy mode.
Using good engineering judgment, BMW has concluded that it is appropriate to carry-forward and carry-across the results of the earlier surveys.
Accordingly, BMW will use only economy-mode fuel economy test results for calculating fuel economy label values and Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ)."

Long autobahn trips = 36-37 MPG
Thats at a relatively constant pace of 80ish MPH in mid mode.
I'm getting around 30-32 on my loop to work which has about a 35-45 mph pace with minimal stopping.
Cooper S Manual
(The car is rock solid at speeds above 100 MPH as well
