tire pressure monitors

wondering if anyone's had any issues with their tire pressure monitors on their 2014s?

this morning, was about 10 miles into my commute (along surface roads) when the TPM went off, with the schematic indicating all four tires had problems. I pulled over, checked the pressure on the OBC, and all looked exactly as they have looked before. Right inflation.

Then, the next time I checked, the TPM showed --.-- for each tyre.

Tried to do a reset, but I only had about 5 miles to my destination, so the reset couldn't complete.

Tried another one when I had a longer journey a couple hours later, and it did the reset (took about 10 miles). Now, I seem to have pretty much the same pressure figures, but no amber warning light and schematic.

I called the dealer, who's not particularly close (across the metro area), and service said it was common and just to top off the tires every morning if the monitor came on, that the new monitors will go off every day when the fall temps keep changing. Which frankly sounds frustrating. is this really just the way the new tire sensors are? Have others experienced this/is it normal? My R53 didn't have sensors that were inoperable in some seasons.

I have pics, but don't have my cable to transfer them from the phone to computer whilst at work.

Who the heck has time to top off their tires every morning?

This is normal, it happens with almost every new car. When the temp drops it reduces the pressure in the tire slightly and causes them to go off. A reset should fix it and it usually only happens the first time the temp drops significantly. There's definitely no need to top off your air pressure every morning, lol.

Our dealer has a Nitrogen machine to help reduce this but I suspect it doens't help much. But they tell us to bring the car to them to get the tires pumped up. Can you imagine the line every morning not gonna happen!

Although I never had this problem with my '12 Buick LaCrosse, I have a feeling it is more normal across the board.

I did have this very same problem about 2 weeks ago. I was actually on my way to the dealer when about 5 minutes into the commute all 4 sensors said my tires were low. Dealer checked and the pressures were fine. She told me it was normal this time of year as the temperatures outside change. Hasn't happened since so I'm not going accept her explanation.

Having experienced the same thing, my 2 cents is this: My car was built in May and delivered in June. The TPM was calibrated during that time, during warm weather. Now that the morning temps are starting to fall, each tire's PSI will naturally fall as well. I believe when a tire's PSI drops only 1 or 2 PSI below the calibrated level, it will set off the warning (don't quote me on that). So, in my case, my tires were running about about 40 PSI. On the morning that my TPM was tripped, my tires read 37.5. I just recalibrated and consider that my "cold weather calibration" :-)

As an aside, yesterday I took my car in for its first oil change and they adjusted all of my tire pressures. I got into my car and my TPM was set off for all 4 tires. Sooo... I recalibrated again.

Mine has done it too. Tires all fine, not sure why. Reset and all appears to be fine now.

It depends on the type of sensor they use. If it's the one that measures tire rotation (like the R53 used) it doesn't usually go off with big temp swings, but the wheel mounted sensors all do this, at least in my experience.

That's NOT normal.

The TPMS error should never come on when the tire pressure is in spec.

This error happened to my 2014 MCS also. I had to reset/recalibrate the TPMS (w/o toppping off the tires) per owner's manual to get rid of the error message on the dash. Calling it normal and telling you to top off the tires every morning is ridiculous at the least!

It is an outside temperature thing. When the weather gets colder the tire pressure goes down and sets off the sensors. It's a real pain but there isn't a lot you can do about it. I live in Southern CA where it never gets very cold, but the sensors still come on. I found that if I add a couple of pounds of pressure in the Fall it keeps the sensors at bay but that might not work as well in very cold regions o the country.

I just had a warning today when I stopped to get some coffee on the way to work, readings seem to be normal. Now I have to figure out how to do a reset.

I also have a Honda that would give a low warning light when the outside temps were a bit lower and the tire pressure was even a little marginal. Sort of got to expect it to come on certain days.

My wife's Honda Element did that a couple times. My Mini hasn't done it yet, and the fronts got to about 30 psi recently.

It might be common with Hondas... I've had an Element, Civic and CR-Z which would always give me low tire pressure in the mornings when the temps got down there. Like you, learned to expect it. But I also began keeping a portable pump in the trunk just in case.

Normal or not, I have had the same problem with both my MCS and my BMW before it. Get up in the morning and all four tires say low. Resetting the tpms worked for me.

Living in Arizona it's not surprising considering the low temperature at night, during the summer, is still over 90 degrees, and it drops by 40 degrees in about a month.

Just pumped mine up now we're regularly low 40's in the morning here. TPMS hadn't gone off in my case, but I had dropped about 3lbs evenly in all tyres since the time I set them last back when mornings were in the high 60's/low 70's.

Mine is also an Element SC, seems to be common. Also had it happen a couple of times with my Fit, the Mini replaced that one

The F56 displays the pressure of each wheel. Not like the older models. The light should not trip if the sensors all show acceptable pressure. If pressure is low do to temperature you would see that on the display

I keep mine around 35psi. I notice in the morning when it is cooler they are around 31 or 32 and when I start driving a bit they go up to 35
