Interior Mirror Cover - DIY???

So I have the $100 gift card from Mini like most of you regarding the Shift **** issue. It's a moot point for me since I installed a Whalen ****.

Anyway, with the $100 I was going to get a Black Jack Interior Mirror Cover. They make 2 versions, one with cars equipped with Alarms and one for without Alarm. I didn't notice a variation for cars equipped (or not) with HomeLink garage door buttons. Was this a standard feature across the board?

So my question. Would I be able to do the install without any special tools? I would assume it snaps in place. However I don't know how the cover would go around the pivot arm without removing the mirror. And I hate a wobbly mirror more than anything. Or should I just pay the dealer $10 for the install? I am handy, but if it takes surgery then I'll pass.

The cover is attached with 3m adhesive. There is a slit on the back of the cover that you slide the post for the rear view mirror through.

From what I've seen of the interior mirror covers, they are hollow from above, so the pivot arm area has a cutout (there's no top across the middle of the mirror cover, if you see what I mean).

There are adhesive strips to keep it in place.

There was a thread here or in another MINI forum where someone had issues keeping the bottom of the mirror cover in place because the adhesive wasn't strong enough.

Although the following thread isn't for the F56, I think you'll find it informative:

Good luck!

The mirror covers do not work for those with the garage door buttons. I spoke at length at MTTS with an accessories rep who confirmed. They are working on something that will fit but currently it will NOT work.

From my experience with R56, IF the F56 is the same, there are 2 distinctions for the covers: with and without autodim. This dim part is a small hole for the sensor located on the mirror.
If the garage door opener buttons are situated on the bottom edge as with
the R56, I have successfully created a cut out for the buttons on the cover and it works successfully. What I did is put a piece of painters tape on the cover. Loosely fitted it on the mirror without exposing the adhesive of course, and penciled a rough outline of where the buttons are - mostly the left to right placement as depth is a sort of a guess. Then I used an Xacto knife to very carefully cut out the outline. Error on the side of needing to take off more if necessary, testing as you go. Be patient. Only one chance to get it real right!
If this is so different on the F56 that I'm full of it, I apologize.

Yep:

The description clearly states that the mirror cap requires modification for garage door buttons.

They 100% will not work with auto dim mirrors. I tested both options and the are physically too small. In all honesty they are a rip off too... They are super cheap flimsy plastic. I'd spend the money elsewhere IMHO

Oops, you are right. The cover can be cut for the garage buttons, but will not work for the auto dim mirrors. The auto dim mirror is larger and the cover will not fit at all. I have both auto dim and garage buttons and confused the issue.

I also have to agree the plastic is pretty flimsy for the price you pay. I love the look, but not sure I will spend the money when an option comes out for my car.
