Name That Part

Here are some pictures of my Mini Mystery part. This was found on the floor on the passenger side under the dash board. I don't know when it appeared there as the black on black carpet was near invisible. If I hadn't been cleaning the car it might still be there. I can't say if it fell out from under the dash or was just laying there since delivery or what. It's marked "RG/27973/100" and I can't find it on a Mini Site (eg Sewell) and a Google search finds nothing even remotely close. If anybody has an idea of what this thing might be, I'd like to know.

It looks like the tube that bleeds air into the glove box.

It is a pig to get this to stay in place when you are installing the glove box.
Mine had a small fold on the large end not allowing it to seat properly. This had obviously happened at the factory but it was shoved in anyway. I fixed it when I had my glove box out for the driving lights install.

I just found this same part sitting on my passenger floor. Absolutely NO reason parts should be dropping off my car. Do I call the dealer, what do I do now?

It is not a big deal and very easy to fix. I can imagine that is tricky to install this part quickly on the line....

Now that this thread has bubbled back to the surface, it begs the question - is there some way to control this bleed air? More - Less? Hotter - Colder? And what the heck do I stick in the glove box that I want at a temperature different from ambient anyway - ham sandwich?

Cold drink, I had a nifty toungue-in-cheek booklet with my R50. I think there's a PDF somewhere...

You can turn [part 11 in diagram above] a vent in the back of the glove-compartment. It is using the cooling and heating from the vents.

I lived in South Carolina for a few years working at a place that required my phone remain in the car.

iPhones over a certain temperature will throw an overtemp alarm and refuse to work until they've cooled down a bit. I used the glove box with the AC cranked to get it functional again after work in the summer.

Double check... sometimes when a car is assembled, if a part is dropped they will just grab another part and install it, it cost to much to stop and search for the part that was dropped.

But there is a chance that it was installed poorly and has fallen off.

Motor on!

I like the thread... "Name That Part" we can make it a game...

51169262368 #12 There is a valve that sets in the back 51162751723 #11, most of the time its set closed. When you open it and then run the A/C you have a cooled glove box. Goes back to the Gen 1 days .

Most likely it was on too loose and popped off or bumped under the dash.

Same thing happened on Edmund's Long-Term MINI Cooper.

So is access to the valve from the insideof the glove box or do you have to reach up from under/behind to change it? (got the truck with me today or I'd go outside and figure it out for myself)

The little valve is accessible through the glove box, its in the back corner. Turn it to close and open.

And....March 2015 and later builds do not have the cooled glove box anymore. Mine is not equipped and I bought the parts to retrofit.

Not to digress, but these are the items I have found that have been omitted from March 2015 and later builds:

  • Engine compartment shield on right side not installed.
  • Foam shield on coolant bottle not installed.
  • Screw caps on gauge cluster no longer installed.
  • Air-conditioned glove box discontinued. No hose or adjustable vent on glove box now.
  • Dark silver door trim instead of piano black when equipped with MINI Yours Fiber Alloy dash.
  • 100 MPH or more tire pressure label on door jamb discontinued.
  • Oil recommendation sticker in engine compartment discontinued.
  • Cargo net deleted (with storage package).
  • Cargo net retention slots on load floor deleted (with storage package).

I had the blank spot. Had to buy the hose and the round grill to turn the flow off and on in the glove box. The outlet from the HVAC unit was capped off, so took the cap off and plugged the hose in.
