Dashboard cover

Having been unsuccessful purchasing an F56 dash cover from the regular sources, today we fabricated one.

See post 12 for finished product.

Until one of the purveyors of fine dash covers fabricates an F56 cover,
that is the temporary solution.
It could be doubled, and the edges taped and sewn, but the time and energy consumed
would be significant.
....Anyone have a professionally made cover that fits?

I keep checking sources but have yet to find one. Same with a windshield cover. For that I bought one of the cheapy two circular ones. They do the job of keeping the sun off the dash while parked, but I'd sooner have a nice dash cover and fitted folding windshield cover. Where the heck is Mini on this. They've got a whole car cover (with the sunglasses) but neither of these items, which are almost a critical need in southern climes. To quote Jimmy Buffet "I'm mad as hell!"

Today's rendition.
Doubled, laminated , taped and sewn edges.
The fabric is 1.5 yds. wool felt $9 yd, bias tape $5, spray contact cement $12 , fusible tape $3.
Labor 4-6 hours.
Cheaper than purchasing NO!
However none are available.
We created a paper pattern first.
Cult the felt to match the pattern.
Fine fitted the felt
Cut a second felt
Laminated the two cut felt covers with spray contact cement.
Claudia sewed on the matching cloth tape to the edges.
Punch vent holes with a .........
Yes, a punch.
During Full Fan the cover remains in place.

The manual says not to put anything on the dash, because of the airbags.

So, maybe that's the reason there are none available.

I get what you were going for with protecting/cooling the dash but man, that really does not look good at all. one of the best features of the car is the new interior. I just couldn't do that to mine. but to each their own. I also don't tend to keep cars for more than 2 years at most so I wouldn't have the same concerns I guess. I do get a kick out of this forum though. My previous car was the Porsche Cayman and I swear the Porsche owners were not even this obsessive about their cars in the forums lol.

Cover is not attached and weighs only a few ounces
Interior heat has a very noticeable decrease

I'm with DougH, why not just use a sunshade?

I assume he only uses this while he is parked. You're acting like he superglued it to his dash...

Even though I understand the practical aspect of the dash cover,

It's the heat when first getting in the car so...

Except I'd be to lazy to use it.

I don't think anybody would take the time to make a dash cover if he wasn't going to use it while driving . A sunshade would work better for a parked car. I did see glue in the material list. That gave me a chill.

Jeez, you're even too lazy to use two "o"s in too.

You say interior heat has noticeably decreased. In all fairness if you turned your a/c on high it wouldn't be very long at all that you would be turning it down. I live in Arizona where it gets hot and keeping the interior of my car comfortable is far from a problem.

You completed a neat project and it looks like you did it well. My only point is that it was unnecessary.
