Didn't take long for the first damage

noticed it this morning. no pictures as i was busy for mothers day, but noticed someone hit my front passenger side. scratched the wheel well, the vinyl lip, and the bumper. chipped paint on the bumper side. so annoying...but hey, you can never own anything nice in NY.

question for those in the know...is thunder grey metallic the same as previous years? everywhere i look up they reference thunder grey metallic for previous years. i want to try to touch up/fix this up.

Sorry to hear about your car, that sucks. I just checked and Thunder Grey is the same as previous years, color code B58. The good news is there aren't really any variants so the paint should match perfectly.

PM me if you want and I can give you more details or answer questions. I have a touch up paint business but don't want to go too far into it here so that it looks like I'm self-promoting as a newb on the forum.

Touch up yourself? That's what insurance is for, to fix. I would immediately contact your provider. Its not your fault, so they should not charge you for someone that hits and runs.

He might have a high deductible under his collision coverage that he would like to avoid paying.

Thank you yes.. $500 deductible..

Chip is about 1/4“x1/4"..not big by any means... But i see it so it's driving me crazy.. A good compound should clear the scratches but the chip has to be dealt with.

I hear you on the high deductible, but if you cannot touch it up and have it not be noticeable, then I'd bite the bullet and have it properly repaired. JMO.

I would drive a beater in NYC. A 1998 Honda Accord with a homemade spoiler made of a 2 by 6. Sorry about that dude.

I'm not sure that the color is the same. There was a tread on this subject. There is a visible difference between the colors. The new color is much less blue. Check the color number under the hood.

Baseball-sized rock in the middle of the hood that fell off a trailer on day-two.

Oh man, sorry to hear about this.
I think for this I would have insurance take care of it.

The damage, although small, is to three panels, and you're going to have to replace the plastic wheel rim anyway, right? A personal touch up kit might not work for this unfortunately. I do wish you the best.

Please post an "After" pic when it's all back to normal. Cheers.

Repairs

Well,

It can be repaired but that won't give you comfort that it will not happen again. I have a dash cam in mine front and rear. And it records while parked based on a timer and sits off it battery levels gets below a preset voltage. Check out www.blackboxmycar.com for more info. I use the Blackvue model. Nice App and I can download videos on the spot with built in Wifi on the unit.

I also carry magnetic things I can put on the side to prevent door dings. Nothing is perfect, there is no 100% safe. But in the end I have done all that I can do.

I park so that only one side is exposed to another car -- the other side is close to the edge of the parking lot next to the plants, curb or whatever. If necessary, I'll park at the far end and walk 100 feet or so to where I'm going. Some cars, junky ones or 2-door cars with big doors, I won't park next to. I usually have very few to no dings in my cars.

I wish we had that luxury. Here in LA sometimes the only spot left really sucks. Twice now since I've had my car (like 10 days), I parked what I thought was remotely and by the time I got back I had cars on both sides. And both real hoopty's too.

And I've also noticed that people seem to park really f'd up next to the Mini. I guess because it's so small it's easy to park near and therefore people don't take any time to park properly and within the lines. I find it rather annoying. Plus I'm coming out of a 4-door F250 which was hard to park and no one wanted to park near!

L.A. is bad but I know from experience, and obviously as MarcoPolo has shown, NYC is still worse for parking.

Protection

Maybe these would help?

http://www.doorshox.com/car-door-protectors.htm

For all those who parallel park here are numerous ideas to protect front and rear bumpers from those braille parkers.

http://www.bumperbully.com/products_...rotection.html

Just some thoughts. Nothing is perfect. But I can't sit back and do nothing either.
