Dealer "detail" recommendations

Hey all, as I am awaiting delivery of my new f56 I was wondering if the dealer provided detail job was really worth the $900-1500 that they are charging?
Up side is that it comes with dent protection for life, but for that much money I would think it would come with some gold bars in the boot.

Any recommendations?

That's a lot of cheddar....better read the fine print on the "lifetime dent protection"

If they fix all dents of any size for free for life then sure 1000$ isn't much. But that seems unbelievable.

Yea check it over, I paid like a grand for the tire and wheel warranty which they told me would take care of any dings / scuffs to my wheels. Well I had to swerve in a parking lot one day and hit a curb. Called to see about getting it fixed but was told the only way they would fix my wheel was if it wouldn't hold air. So I have curb rash that I thought was covered.

Snake oil!!
For that kind of money you can have the finest detail product equipped garage in a 10 county area.
For road rash protection get a bra or have a clear bra applied. For wheels and tires, think in terms of your shoes. What part of your garb takes the harshest beating day to day. As far 'detailing' is concerned spend a couple of evenings wading thru the Detailing 101 section of NAM paying special attention to what Richard Lin aka Octaneguy has to say. A dealer who promises to detail your MINI will be using contaminated rags at best and you'll have world record swirls. I saw a BMW 3 something come out of a dealer's detail bay that not only had swirls, every inch of the paint was hologramed.

Here's my "dealer detail" experience at delivery (which was free by the way) . . . . significant swirls in the clear coat on hood, doors and quarter panels, some bad holographic swirls on one door and rear hatch, slick "armor all" like "juicy" crap sprayed all over the dash, HUD display, leather seats, controls, etc, and white wax dried onto the black plastic wheel well trim. I sat in the seat and about slid out and got that crap all over my clothes. Next, don't pay for a detail job as you can do a better job in your driveway. . . .why? because you actually give a flying rats patootie and there won't be a minion burning your clearcoat with a high speed buffer with dirty buffer pads.

When I picked mine up there was still white wax residue (that's the $2,000 paint sealant I refused to pay for that they said I was now getting for free because they do it to all their cars), swirls in my bonnet stripes, and wet marks on the speedo and tach.

I spent the first day cleaning it up snd it looks 100% better.

The detailing thread is pretty good on this site, I bought the primo wash and wax based on that thread, stuff works really good and extremely easy to apply.

I was offered dent/scratch protection, tire protection, and paint protection. This would have added an additional $100.00 a month on my 3-year lease. No thanks!

Anyone been offered a windshield replacement policy. Something to the tune of 700.00 for lifetime replacement of the windshield. Seems like the angle and height of these cars makes them absolute targets for broken windshields.

$700? My car insurance adds full glass coverage for like $60 a year. I guess $700 is a deal if you plan to keep the car for more than a decade and are confident none of the side or back windows will ever break... otherwise, yea, car insurance!

No way should you pay that much, lol. Also for any dealer installed extras, like stripes, etc, get the dealer to put it on for free or walk away to another dealer.

I picked up my F56 MCS on Saturday and the finance guy tried to sell me this whole package of stuff from tire replacement to 3M film. It was above $6K for the whole deal and would have added $200/mo to my payment. I was in the fortunate position that my wife is out of town and they have to send her the paperwork so my "not now" was accepted without any more pressure. I've been thinking about 3m or Xpel film but I'm betting I can get it done myself for less.

I paid $600 for exterior/interior protection, it came to $9/month. I assume they'll screw me over, but she told me specifically that it covers weather related damage to the paint and any rip/tear/defect on any interior surface, including tears and burns on the seats up to 1" long. I even specifically asked if pet related damage was covered, and she told me it was.

We'll see if any of that holds up if I actually have to use it, but for $9/month I'll take the chance.
