Cooper S 2.0 Tuning Potential

This article is an old one, and probably seen by many of you already so I apologize if this is redundant, but would love to know what many of you are seeing (if it all), by way of aftermarket tuning products for the new 2.0 engine on the S. Sounds like this could be the new power plant for 320's and 328i's in the future and would mean that we have an engine that is loaded with potential.

Any speculation on how much of a jump the JCW will be over the S? In the past I have always been disappointed at the minimal gains you see in a JCW, for how much that vehicle costs. Would love to see a factory offered sub 6 second 0-60 Cooper.

How many of you will be tuning up yours, how, and where will be sourcing the upgrades (Mini authorized JCW bolt ons, or other).

yes, this has been discussed in previous threads.

it is not the SAME engine but similar to the N20 from BMW. That being said, I won't be surprised to see some with 300hp by way of bolt ons, tune, and race gas or e85.

I'll likely tune mine whenever I get it via aftermarket tuning/parts.

AB. 231 HP for the JCW seems low to me. That engine is capable of massive power. But with 300 to 350 HP within reach you have to think how scary that would be on the road with other unpredictable drivers around! I had my R56 at one point at around 240 and that felt pretty quick in that car. Truth is they build as cheaply as they can get away with. BMW would build a body for 189hp car differently than a 300HP car.
We know this engine has huge potential but a $700 tune might get you into a very dangerous zone without big money spent on upgrading other components.

You think tolerance levels are that low with the F56, and it couldn't handle 240 hp comfortably?

Yeah, I wasn't really talking about just the engine either though. I agree that upgraded brakes would be important when it comes to adding 40-50 hp, but for the other items? Eh, I am completely ignorant about it, I just would have thought that now BMW is playing a much stronger roll in the development of the car it might be over engineered rather than under. I am hoping at the very least it could comfortably manage 15-20 additional horses with the replacement of the exhaust and a cold air intake.

AB - totally ...but 300bhp in a small light car like that. The motor and front wheels will walk out off the body :-( and the brakes you would need to stop that bullet...

Unless you would be spending more time in the 100mph+ range (or doing a lot of racing) with 300hp, IMO the factory brakes would be just fine. Getting to 60mph in 5.9 seconds vs. 6.5 seconds shouldn't require bigger brakes. But the suspension might need to be updated to handle the increased power in order to get that power to the ground without breaking something. My biggest concern would be what engine components should be upgraded to handle that much of a power increase. That, and the clutch/transmission.
