Front Plate Mount

I know it's a bit early as I expect folks haven't gotten plates yet but I'm in a front-plate state and fortunately with my F56 the dealer put on a decent mount. Unlike the Toyota dealer who used big machine screws directly into the bumper of our Avalon (which we no longer own).

I see that Craven Speed is advertising a tow-mount bracket for the F56 (Platypus), but I can't see a tow mount on the front in any online photoshop it must be well-hidden. Is it in a reasonable spot that it wouldn't block anything?

if you look really really closely at the black section that splits the mouth in the middle...look at the far left side just as it meets the chrome section, the pop-out tab to expose the toe hook is there.

and thanks for locating a front plate mount manufacturer...buying...NOW.

Thanks -- thought it might be hidden there. Hopefully it won't overlap the fog light, it does mount in the center. Gonna email my MA and see what the are going to do for mounts, if it's integrated into the bumper like on my R56 I won't mind so much.

Found a photo of another seller with one mounted. I'm not sold yet. http://www.minimotors.com/Classic_Mi...FchFMgodiTYA3w (no affiliation)

Also there is the venerable gominigo mount, I may email them to see if they have any info.

I actually have an extra Platypus from my R56 (they sent me two when I ordered one and told me to keep the extra rather than shipping it back).

Hopefully it fits and I'll finally have a use for it.

There are two web sites that so far claim that the new design for the license plate mount is different for this new mini

PSA on these mounts. I had one on my R56 and it was always getting mangled by the dealer.

When bringing my car in for the free service visits, the dealer always washed my car. Sometimes I forgot to tell them not to. Anyhow, the washer they had was mechanical, it would bend the plate to hell.

If you mount one of these be very careful that the car doesn't go through a mechanical car wash. Hand wash only.

With that said, they look great. I prefer it to drilling the bumper.

The new Platypus Pro-series is steel, and covers the entire back of the plate. Washers are not an issue with these. We do have fitment for the F56, but it is not the same as the R56 just as had been suggested earlier in the thread.

They don't have a touchless automatic car wash where you are?

Standing order to Service Department, do not wash the car, do not wash the car, and just in case you missed it do not wash the car. Had a previous non-MINI car scratched and no wash since that time.

I'm certainly interested in this style mount. I would just need to see how it looks installed on the F56, before purchase.

Expect delivery of my car on May 2nd, the plate mount should arrive several days later, it will be on when I do the required photo shoot.

I just had a front mount put on my F56 by the dealer (Sewell in Plano, TX). I asked about who made the part, since I knew people here would want to know. They swore it was a MINI part. It was for the previous generation, but it fit fine.

It looks similar to that, but it is not exactly the same. Its hard to tell, but I don't think it has the offset positions that gomingo does. I didn't see it before they put it on so I could be wrong. They did put a small rubber spacer between the holder and the car on the corner away from the towing hook hole. You can see it in the pictures. Without that spacer, the bolt/nut on the back could scratch the bumper. Looking at it now I bet I could flip it around so that other side of the plate was connected to the bolt. This would provide a larger space between the right side of the plate and the bumper since the bumper curves back on the sides. Of course, this would also give it a lot more space to get caught on stuff as well. The part was $65.

k. well thanks for the update. i'll throw some up when i get mine from craven. 2 differences i see already are...

1) the craven is black powder-coated.
2) the craven is angled so the one side of the plate does not stick out.

We don't have front plates in FL, but I'd like to have a long custom plate made similar to what they always show in the ad photos. Is there a kit for that for the new F56?

It does look like it will overhang the fog light a bit. Jason at gominigo says the F56 kit will have the right offset bracket to maybe avoid that. It's not up on the site yet though.
