Out of curiosity, what was wrong with the look of the Platypus? You know we are always trying to improve things.

I didnt like how thin it was, the plastic dealer plate mount is almost an inch thick, and I didnt care for the angle of the platypus mount, im sure it could be 'bent' to a different angle, but that just seemed flimsy to me. Im in no way trying to detract from the platypus, it just wasnt right for me:-)

If I am not mistaken the dealer one is an inch of plastic while the platypus is steel and very high quality. Not nearly Somthing easily bent. The old r56 platypus on the f56 looked terrible wih the angle but the guys over at craven made one specifically for the f56 that sits parallel with the bumper. Just my observations, take them how you will

Yes it is plastic, buti made a steel plate behind it, and the plastic thickness (in my opinion) looks much better against the bumper. It has zero wind shake and looks substantial

It's cool, I asked and it's a valid answer.

The Platypus 11 gauge steel though, as a fab guy you know that at that thickness you cannot just bend it by hand. Once installed on the bumper, it takes some strength with both hands to adjust the angle at all, wind is not an issue at all. I'm not going to argue about your opinion of the looks, I just don't want anyone who reads this later to think that we sell a flimsy product, because there are flimsy no hole plate mounts out there...and this is not one of them.

Thanks for the feedback though. I am all for a good DIY project and we are always happy to support those projects if anyone needs just a piece here or there to make their idea come to fruition.

Have you posted pics of yours?

+1 my scrawny arms can barely bend that thing.

While I am very pleased with the look of my Platypus mount, I have noticed some rust forming on the supplied hardware. Nothing serious, seems to only be forming on the supplied hardware for mounting the actual plate. Going to try some shorter, stainless steel bolts to remedy this.

Let us send you some shorter stainless hardware. Shoot me a PM and I'll take care of it. The hardware included with the Platypus Pro is stainless...so I don't know why it's rusting but we'll certainly fix it!

We were just talking this morning about shorter hardware. We left length on there to allow for a plate frame, but it seems like a lot of people don't use a frame and so the bolts extend through the plate. So we might default to shorter hardware and send long stuff to anyone who needs it for a plate frame.

I worked with the very helpful guys at craven and they have sent me a piece that allows the platypus to be mounted on a car with the driving lights package installed. They are also shipping me shorter hardware to mount the plate. These guys have amazing customer service and their products quality is superior to anything I have seen. Even with a 2-3" drop from the tow hook there is absolutely no vibration in the plate.

Is it possible to order the kit with this extra drop added in? I won't have the driving lights on my car but I prefer the look of the plate when it's a bit lower in the front as seen here as opposed to the original mounting height shown on page 1.

Careful of the front mount

My front mount has a habit of skinning shins of unsuspected people looking at my mini and grabbing some skinTE=fjork_duf;3920759]PSA on these mounts. I had one on my R56 and it was always getting mangled by the dealer.

When bringing my car in for the free service visits, the dealer always washed my car. Sometimes I forgot to tell them not to. Anyhow, the washer they had was mechanical, it would bend the plate to hell.

If you mount one of these be very careful that the car doesn't go through a mechanical car wash. Hand wash only.

With that said, they look great. I prefer it to drilling the bumper.[/QUOTE]

I am sure if you have the guys at craven a call they would be happy to help you out with this. Adam is usually on these forums and Jeremy is the platypus master.

I definitely plan to. I figured I would ask here as well in case anyone else wanted to know if the kit can be ordered like this. Thanks!
