My dealer has been sitting on my order for over 3-4 weeks. He said the HK stereo is still delayed. Has anyone here gotten an order to go through with the HK option in the last couple of weeks? They keep asking me to change the configuration to get the order pushed out. I have been holding firm, since its not everyday that I get to pick a car exactly the way I (we) want it. I am starting to get the feeling that the dealership is jerking my chain.

Mine was built on April 4th and on a ship now. Pretty loaded except park assist and alarm.

 

I was told of HK delays as well, but my MA pushed my order through anyway between 3/2 and 3/9. I will take delivery no later than next Tuesday...

 

I haven't heard of any delays for cars with the H-K system. My MCS has been "scheduled for production" with the H-K option so I'm hoping it won't hold things up. What was the delay anyway?

 

I ordered mine April 5th with HK and is scheduled to be finished production the 16th.

 

I was at Mini of SF on Saturday and they told me there was a delay for the HK system. They mentioned HK was having issues with a part.

 

Mine has the HK stereo, build was completed on 9 Apr, depending on who I believe it's on the boat here or still at the port. My dealer has several in stock with the HK stereo also. Not sure what would be happening.

I couldn't place the order with HK as stand alone option.
At that time the only way i could get it was as part of the fully loaded package.
Dealer simply couldn't configure it any other way.I was there,looking at the screen and sitting next to them when they were making phone calls.
We need the car early in May so unfortunately had to order it without HK.

 

Yeah it was odd. The car is a "Fully Loaded" package car. I have been waiting close to 3.5 weeks just for them to put in the order. I am patient and can generally wait things out if it's something I want. But if I feel that some how I am being toyed with, I get a bit hot under the collar.

I am wondering if my dealer is just small and just doesn't have any more allocation slots left, and is using the HK shortage as an excuse. If I were to get an allocation shortage response from the dealer, then I would have understood and waited. Right now I don't even have a ball park date of even production. Forget about when it gets on a boat an arrives State side. I hate to get a car in Late June that I "ordered" in March. I hope they are enjoying my $500 deposit.

I wonder if I should call other dealerships. Unfortunately it will probably hurt my MA, because he is just repeating what his Sales Manager is quoting.

 

Based on what you've mentioned, it sounds like that could be the case. I ordered March 23 at a top dealer in the northeast and it should be here in the next week or 2.

 

TEJ, I would talk to another MINI dealer. I think you're getting jerked around, either because of the size of the dealer, misinformation (confusion with the known oil filter housing gasket issue), or other. I have not heard of any current factory delays due to a shortage of parts. There was a rumor over a month ago about HK parts delaying production, but during the time mine went right into production with the HK upgrade. Again, talk to another dealer, even if it is by phone.

I mean I can see them wanting to sell you the car, but they should be honest about the delay. If they are indeed being dishonest about the delay (HK?) that doesn't inspire much confidence down the road IMO. It's like they don't think you can find out that others are getting theirs build with HK as an option.

 

I ordered my car on 4/3 and was told that there was a delay with the HK system, and that it may be a few weeks before production starts. This dealer is apparently the 3rd largest MINI dealer in the country (that's what they told me), so I can't imagine it's an allocation issue. I checked up with my MA a few days ago and this is what I was told:

"MINI AG (Germany) is telling MINIUSA (America) that the HK Sound Backorder hasn’t been resolved, but working on it. As soon as it (the HK option) is opened up, we’ll be able to put the order into a designated production number."

EDIT:

Just as I posted this I got another reply from my MA and this is what he said:

"I spoke to the Factory Representative yesterday and he confirms as of the first of May ALL RESTRICTIONS on Harman-Kardon Sound systems will be lifted and we’ll be able to fast track your order in a couple weeks with everything you want."

So it may be a few more weeks for me before it enters production... at least there is an ETA now. Just have to be patient a little longer.

We just submitted an order with deposit yesterday to a MINI dealer in Arizona. They told us that there are two restrictions preventing them from ordering the car and getting a production number. The first is the Harman Kardon issue (so I am glad it looks like it may resolve in the next couple of weeks), the second was the inability to order the black roof and mirror caps. Have you heard of the second restriction? Are you ordering same color roof as your body color?

Yes there is a contrasting roof color restriction currently in place. Customer sold vehicles will get priority for May build, but future orders will be delayed or pushed out. Restriction currently in place until July production. Sorry

Regarding H/K restriction, dealers can ask for orders to be prioritized and pushed through on a first come, first served basis and would likely depend on dealer size, standing and allocation.

 

So the details of the HK restriction are not fully known. Sounds like there is a shortage of parts where some orders are going through and others delayed. Sounds like either demand for the new MINI is exceeding their forecast, or the parts manufacturers are having their own supply issues.

 

My MA told me yesterday the car was built and sitting awaiting a ship assignment (awaiting transport). Now my car has both the H-K sound system AND a black roof/mirrors on the Silver White body color. I went "on order" on 3/24 and "scheduled" on 4/2 so I don't know how I seem to have slipped through these shortages but I can't say I'm going to complain about it!

 

I suspect it's a shortage at the supplier. I don't remember where I read it but I'm pretty sure that's what I read. It was something stupid too like the plastic trim for the tweeters or something.
