Is anyone planning on doing window tint on their F56?

I think I will want to tint my side and rear windows. I have to check and see what the state maximum tint is. Anyone else planning on doing a window tint? If so which windows?

Is window tint film pretty scratch resistant? I mean with normal everyday use.

I plan on doing 20% all around (including the sunroof).

I will also do a clear heat rejection film on the front windshield. Every car I have is tinted... it's almost a necessity here in Arizona.

I've never had a problem with scratches. I don't carry kids in my cars either though My dog has been unable to scratch the tint I've put on if that helps at all.

It'll be 35% all around for me. In addition, I've been able to find a local guy with a great reputation capable of installing both the tint and a clear bra.

I've had clear bras on both my '03 and '10 because, here in WV, the salt applied to the road in wintertime is coated to small pieces of gravel that has a way of being flung back from vehicles in front of me.

I tend to be on the aggressive side when it comes to getting around slow vehicles that I'm following, so a clear bra is an absolute necessity for the way I drive.

I'll be tinting the first week I get the F56. Having never had window tinting done before, I'm going to have to research for a good installer in Maryland.

Dealers have their favorite installers, so it doesn't hurt to ask. Also, ask for the dealer's price.

Thanks so much! That definitely helps.

And I will definitely ask my dealer about tinting. I did use a place about 30 minutes away a few years ago and they did a great job.

Also be aware that the film is fairly easy to scratch. My wife's fingernails have left a long scratch where she has slid her hand along the windowsill. I avoid touching mine, and they still look pretty good after 4 1/2 years -- the dirt is not apparent.

"Some films" scratch easily and some do not adhere to the glass
as well as others.
GOOGLE, best glass tinting material/fabric.
See what you get.
Go to a few shops, see what they offer.
I learned by experience, once is enough.
Be well advised.

I'm going to do my homework as you suggested. Sounds like I'd better really want a tint (film) and if I do, to be careful what I use and who I use to install it. Thanks.

This may not be relevant, as my recent MINI tint experience is with a 2011 Countryman (my 4th MINI, an F56, is on order) Love the tint, no problems with it getting scratched, but the tech measured and CUT the tint to install on the back 3 windows ON the outside of the windows, scratching squares into each of those 3 windows. :P. Anyway, don't know if the glass manufacturer will be the same in the F56, or if I just lucked upon a dumb tint installer and MINI glass is not any softer than anything else as the tint installer claimed. I lost interest after the "fix" scratched the black paint on the too big black MINI paint and never did anything else about it. I'll be back in a hardtop sometime in May and it doesn't matter anymore. ...Just something to keep in mind.

I will likely tint but will look to the newer ceramic films that block heat without having to be as dark. (e.g. 3M Crystalline) I will decide on strength of the tint after I take delivery though. Also want to avoid bring too reflective.

One thing to avoid though are metallized films as they can interfere with cell phone performance.
