Rear shock replacement-F56 with variable dampening

Mechanic tells me shocks need replacing. Except for rusty bolts a fairly easy task. Is there additional work/parts needed for the Variable Dampening Control? Cannot find detailed images/videos to see how that works.

Variable Dampening Control shocks pre 2024 have the additional larger Pin size and different part number mounts.

They connect a little wire to the top of the strut. Everything else is the same as a standard MINI shock on the outside.

Also called EDC or DDC.

Mini suspension are bad for back.

I had mini cooper for 2 years and suspensions were so stiff that I got tumor in my spine by constant bouncing of car. I used to drive long hours daily. It was leased car and I returned it now. I bought car with air suspension, as I need comfort for my back.

I’ve not heard that much about replacing dead DDC on the various forums, are they far more robust than the “normal “ shocks, as quite a few of the earlier higher spec cars had these as fitted options,

or is it more the case they are just expensive to replace so perhaps people put up with the ride when they are on the way out ?

I am curious, and have just purchased new bump-stops and plastic dust shields for the rears on mine 111,000 miles, I’m guessing that they are otherwise not rebuildable in any meaningful sense.
