Tire mixup and dealer problems

I have a 2015 base cooper in California ordered through Mini w/ the sport package and 16" wheels. The website specifically states it comes with the runflat tires and does not give an option for normal non-run flat.

The issue is that the car we received apparently doesn't have run flat tires - they are Michelin Energy Saver tires which are not run flat. We found out the hard way when the tire shredded as we drove according to run-flat instructions following loss of pressure (under 50mph, less than 15 miles of driving). So basically we found out after the fact that the car did not come with run flats when they should have according to the website, the salesperson/MA, etc. There is literally no option to not choose run flats when ordering the car and I did not opt out of it either.

Long story short I had to argue and fight with the dealer to even get them half-admit that run flats on the 16" wheel is not an option and that they are supposed to come standard. They tried to argue that it's opt in, opt out, that they are not ordered standard, that the website is wrong, that 'all performance run flat tires as an option' constituted an option of not getting run flats (although we did not even consider all season as an option to begin with...), etc. Eventually they said they'll call Mini USA and get back to me but my hopes aren't high regarding their track record in customer service so far.

Anyone know what my options are regarding this situation?

Question. Does your car have a jack and a space saver spare tire?

I believe a base F55/F56 comes with a jack and compact spare regardless of whether it is factory equipped with runflats.

That is correct, the base cooper comes with a jack and spare tire. The problem is that the car should have come with run flats (which the website clearly states, and something the salesperson assured me of multiple times) when it did not. The fact that the car comes with a spare/jack and that some people prefer to order their car w/o runflats does not negate the fact that for all intents and purposes the advertising and sales process of the car indicated the car would come with run flats and that there was no option for me to NOT get them - yet the dealer is insisting the runflats were always just an option and that the car is supposed to come with the normal tires standard.

The MA adamantly pointed out the "option to get all season run flat tires" (as opposed to performance run flats) as an option to not get run flats at all. This is how absurd they are being.

For added clarification this is with the 16" wheel upgrade, not the standard 15" wheels.

Copy the website. Take them (dealer too small claims). Did this with a Mitsubishi and that settled.

There have been a couple of threads about tires. From reading the two links below, it seems some 16" Justas have non-runflats, only guarantee is if you get All Season.

Look at post #3 and #18 in the first thread. I take it to read that the Dealer could order non-runflats on Justas. Even if tis is the case, get a Mini Rep involved if the Dealer stands firm.

There is also a thread about the dealer selling the poster runflat tire warranty coverage on a car fitted with 16" non-runflats.

In the U.K. nonrunflats are standard and runflats are an extra-cost option. In the U.S. prior to the F56 all tires over 15" were runflats. Now it seems no one knows what to expect although we are paying for runflats. My 2014 Roadster S has a jack and 16" runflats, so you can't tell by wheel changing/tire repair equipment either.

Errors in BMW's websites are common and often go unfixed.

Would someone with an F56 send an email to MINIUSA and ask if tires other than 15" are supposed to always be runflats? As this thread illustrates, this is a safety issue.

I had to fight to get a jack and a spare in Canada.

Question No room for spare tire

My F56 with 16 inch all-season Pirelli run flats has no room for a spare because the space under the car where I think a spare might fit is occupied by something else. I don't know what it is yet.
