sick of searching for answers! too many issues

K, so I have a 03 r53 bought used ...and regretted it ever since! Battery drain, tach doesn't work, blinker lights don't show in the car, no interior lights at night, keyless entry doesn't work, gas lid doesn't lock, trip counter resets every time I start the car, I have to pull out the fuse that says constant power in order for it to not need a jump start in the morning....heater fans will stay on without a key on the car and more. Any help before I put a for sale sign in it ?

You might want to post in the R53 area, this is the F56 area, many people here might not know much about that car. All I can say is it sounds like a short somewhere draining the battery. A low battery will cause all those things you just mentioned but what's draining the battery is the real question.

R53's are pretty reliable. Maybe you bought a flood car.

Or a bad BCM...
Typically water from a leaky sunroof drains gets it wet...and it goes crazy...
Even an aged dry one can...
Also check your ground wires...similar results...
As would a bad wiring harness...good luck.

...could also sound like a shopping list of problems selected to amaze. Besides, the R53 doesn't have a 'gas lid', that is reserved for the R52/57, 'kinda' hard to mistake one for the other.
If there's no OP response pretty soon, maybe just another troll?

If you're buying a 12 year old car, don't buy one that has a poor reputation for reliability. I love my Mini but I wouldn't own one that didn't have a factory warranty. If I were going to buy an older used car I'd probably buy a Civic or a Corolla.

And no "battery drain" warning on a r53....

I said it has a battery drain...then a comma...nothing about a warning. Sorry for slow response and posting in the wrong place...I'm using my phone and the mobile site doesn't show things how it should. And work, school, and a house full of kids = not much time to get online or work on my car.

The dealer I bought it from did say he had just replaced the sunroof drains or cleaned them out or something. But he didn't have the key with the remote on it ..said he couldn't find it. Up in till I was about to leave after purchasing then he magically found it but claimed it had a dead battery So I wasn't able to test the door locks until later I discovered the remote worked but door locks didn't.

And it has a nice shiny chrome lid over the gas refill port...that is supposed to lock when the doors lock I though t but it doesn't work.

I like the car but I'm just tired of having to jump start it because I forgot to take the fuse out. And it would be nice to see my rpms, blinkers, speed at night, and have doors that lock. Guess the good deal I got wasn't quite so.

As far as saying r53...well it's an early production 2003 Cooper s model so i thought that's what an r53 was...if I was wrong...it wasn't intentional.

Well that sounds like the bcm is toast, I would just put a switch on the fuse.

Sounds like you bought a project car....
The BCM, or body control module is in the passenger sidewall foot area...
Might be worth checking the area for moisture or water damage...
Ice typically expands as it forms in the drains, poping off the clips...then it drains into the car, rather than the tubes...
And the bcm gets wet...and all sorts of stuff happens...
Good luck...but hope it was a $1000 car...
