New to me 2017 Camera Add/Nav

I just got a New to Me 2017 all4 S, last night, and would love to add backup camera. I searched the F54 group before posting but no luck. I would like to integrate it into the display. I have done many car stereos over the decades, so not afraid of pulling trim parts or the head unit but don't even see a spot where it could of had a factory option. Anyone have any tips/tricks/tear downs?

Also if I am going to pull the display I was thinking about adding Carplay. My unit is not a touch screen version so this may turn into a bigger project, financially, than I would be willing to invest. But free to ask and window shop.

Thanks
Thom

Morning Gents,
Anyone out there... Surely someone has integrated a camera into theirs. I found these guys but don't know anything about them and the module looks exactly like what I have put in a couple of different cars through aliexpress:

https://4x4shop.ca/product/video-int...ng-guide-line/

or from aliexpress

Thanks for any info you all may have.
Thom

The 2017 needed to have the heads up display to have the rear camera option. If I recall the 2018 was standard. At least this was the case in canada because of local regulations. I imagine there are some retrofits but I’ve never read about any that use the oem display.

It should be possible with OEM parts but it would be expensive. Still it would have the best integration with the head unit, if you have a standard MINI thing with either the 6.5" or 8.8" color screen. The OEM camera is part number 66539475687. Whether the 2017 'main wiring harness' came with a wiring loom for the camera is a mystery to me. There is a 'repair wiring harness' for the reverse camera, part number 61119390807. I found the part numbers poking around the Mini of Seattle Parts Store. Some car makers tend to make just a single wiring loom, so it's possible that the camera connector will already be present in your car. That might make installation a lot easier.

You might start by removing your rear bumper cover to see if there is a connector for the connector back there. The camera on the Clubman is installed just above the license plate. I wish that I had saved a photo of mine -- I had removed my rear bumper in order to install a trailer hitch, which required disconnecting the backup camera and the little proximity sensors in the bumper -- at least to show what the connector would look like. It would be a spare 4-pin plug though.

Here's my 2017 Clubman with bumper removed and no OEM camera. Don't see a spare connector.

Bummer that the wiring isn't there!

I found this on another forum: https://www.minif56.com/threads/retr...-84699&slide=1 . A few posts in someone with a 2016 F54 (CmdrBond) starts showing what parts they used to retrofit the camera (and PDC sensors) into their car. They apparently succeeded. Hard to make out from the photo but it does appear that they used the reverse camera repair cable with part number 61119390807 that I previously mentioned.

Digging a little more CmdrBond put a full writeup here: https://www.minif56.com/threads/retr...6/#post-837517 . It includes part numbers for the rear view camera (note the little housing and cover for the camera). Read the whole thread though! One note was that some models of F54 will not have the required KCAN3 bus even enabled (so, possibly no way to make the rearview camera work at all), unless they have one of the features in the car that requires KCAN3. All4 is one of the features, so OP is good to go, just worth noting if anyone else stumbles upon this thread years from now.

Thanks for the information. There is a whole lot in those links. That is awesome. Looks like I need to pull my cover off and start poking. Then I need to look at getting up to speed on coding the mini. The one thing that seems odd is the mounting of the camera. One guide calls for 51127370614. Which looking under my bumper. I have two license plate lights only and that mount appears to be square not like a rectangle like my lights.

Thanks again for this info and a lot of it....
