Is an intake worth it on a B48 engine?

I was looking into my next mod. The dinan intake seems rather straightforward and reasonably priced, especially compared with the eventuri. The gains are negligible, so it’s mostly about sound and maybe some improved throttle response? Does anyone have one installed (or any comparable intake) who can share their thoughts on the sound and performance. My intake on the R53 was awesome, especially to hear the whirling supercharger. The turbo spool and BOV seems a little less worth amplifying if that’s the only tangible benefit.

I have the Dinan intake installed on my 2018 JCW Clubby. The price is what attracted me to it, personally i only wanted to hear the turbo spool better and i definitely do. Weather it's worth the price for that is up to you. I didn't really notice a huge difference in power or response, but i could care less about that lol especially since i have a Dinan elite installed.

Nice to have some feedback! I have a JCW tuning kit. I find the exhaust is not super audible unless I’m in sport mode and shifting gears myself. It’s automatic. Not so many pops and bangs otherwise. I’d like another instrument to round out the sound. I actually don’t find it too pricey. I was tossing between lowering springs, which are a winter problem for me but would be a great look...and big brake kit.

I'm running the Dinan intake as well as the Performance Tune. I love being able to hear the turbo flutter and spooling. Does it add that much more HP, no not really, but I think if you enjoy your car then you'll enjoy being able to hear all the additional noises it makes.

In sport mode, the turbo flutter and spooling is there with stock intake, well, I have stock exhaust on my S. That was the trigger for me to purchase the intake.
Purchased an Agency Power intake from eBay for short money, def much more noticeable for the turbo flutter and spooling, HP gain? not sure... I wanted the sound anyway.
Now I need an exhaust for the All4....

I feel like my car makes no noise outside of sport mode, even with the tuning kit. I’ve certainly never heard the intake. At least it’s only an hour of labor to change out and easy to sell/ship if i don’t love it. I’m more into looks than performance these days...except noise seems to fall into the looks department so it’s a wide spectrum

Anyway to get the spooling sound without the fluttering?

I have the Craven Speed CAI for my JCW F54. I do notice that the car seems to move through its revs a bit more easier and might make a "hurse per" or two more. The sound is lovely and you cannt beat Craven Speed's customer service. If you hate it they will take care of you.

My car makes no noise other than sport mode as well, even after I changed the intake... haha

That was one nice spring day I rolled down my windows a bit in sport mode with the stock intake, I heard the turbo recruit valve noise, that trigger me for an intake. My wife said that noise gets old fast, at least I can put the car back to Mid mode to somewhat kills the intake sound.

The car is quiet out of sport with the pro exhaust closed. Open is a little growl that starts as a drone. In sport you get the ‘braaap’ on upshifts and pops on downshifts especially when using manumatic that are amplified when it’s open.

That’s very funny, my wife likes the exhaust but she’d think something was wrong with the car if she heard the turbo spool. She’d think there was something wrong with me knowing the price of the mods. Until she learns how to parallel park without the need for curb feelers, she can drive her car or control the music in mine.

Do you have the feature that automatically lowers the passenger side mirror when you go into reverse?

haha of course! And a backup camera. Nothing says you’ve arrived like the sound of metal on concrete. She has an x1 and will be in the mini family soon. I’ll just get her more sidewall buffer than 35 profile tires and silver rims instead of black for when they inevitably make contact.

I finally decided to pick up a dinan intake. It got installed today. The flutters are nice, not overly present but more audible. Altogether, it definitely adds a little growl when you’re accelerating that is closer to the cabin that complements the exhaust. I need to try it with the exhaust flaps closed, and in mid before I can get a sense for the value. Throttle seems a little more responsive, especially mid range. I’m sure an intake like craven that has an open design as well as a proper manual would be a world of difference in sound.
