F54 Barn doors not popping open.
Barn doors not popping open.
Hey fellow F54 Clubman owners! I’ve been having issues with my barn doors not popping open. I can hear the mechanism unlatch when prompted by pressing the trunk unlock buttons but all it does is slightly move the door outwards about an inch. Almost like it’s stuck on something. I know for a fact that the struts are still good. Any advice on how to fix this? Thanks in advance!
Mine had this issue recently. I first wiped all the rubber seals with silicone spray. It didn’t help much but I still see it as good maintenance and might help the issue in some cases.
Then I sprayed dry Teflon lube into the latch mechanisms. I feel this helped significantly. The doors open most times now instead of rarely opening.

I had this problem with the second door not opening on pressing the key fob. The dealer said it was due to the door sticking to the rubber seal and that there wasn’t a permanent fix. They lubed the seal and it worked for a while but it will be a continuing work in progress having to re lube the seal every so often.
AutoCoarsen beat me to the punch on the silicone and dry teflon lubes. You can also use the dry teflon lube on the gas strut rods to let the struts move easier as well. The dry teflon shouldn't have any bad effects on the seals.
This is the same answer they gave me when i brought mine in for service. From what i gather, the barn doors don"t seem to be designed very well since lots of Clubman owners seem to have this issue. Hopefully there will be a permanent fix from Mini in the near future.
I highly doubt Mini will do anything about it, as the 'stiction' issue is not uncommon on all hatchbacks that I have owned over the years along with hood opening mechanisms as well. The barn doors still work just fine, they just don't fly open like they originally did. I know my barn doors didn't always fly open when brand new, as they sometimes required a little 'tap' to get them moving. I never thought of it as an issue, just kind of normal really, but that is just me FWIW.
Mine is an LCI and the doors pop out with decent force. I wonder if they've increased the spring (?) pressure on the update?

When the rear hatch on my Fit was sticking, Shin-Etsu was recommended by nearly everyone on the Fit forums. Shin-Etsu is a factory grease for Honda, available on Amazon. And they weren’t wrong, the stuff worked really well. Used it on my all my seals, window or door.
