F54 2020 Mini Clubman changes
I think my 2020 system sounds cleaner and has a bit more punch than my 2017HK did. But then, just about everything about the 2020 seems improved, from the tranny to the engine dynamics to the fit and finish to the paint quality.
Leather seating pattern is nicer in the lounge leather.
Now that I'm accustomed to it, I can say the tranny shifter is an improvement, though I think the aesthetic of the shifter design isn't as good as it could/should be -- I like some of the nicer ***** on the higher line BMWs better and wish MINI would have gone that way. But the operation of the shifter is very good, once you get used to pressing the buttons for Park and engagement.
I liked the mode ring on the 2017 -- reaching down and finding the toggle switch to toggle into Sport or back to Mid isn't as seamless or as slick as it used to be to just drop a hand down near the shifter and slide the ring.
Engine and shifting dynamics, and overall idle smoothness are improved -- though I've got the S and the JCW is an entirely different beast.
I like the heads up display which is now standard on Iconic trim ( I didn't have it on my 2017).
And the alarm on Iconic is standard.
The MSRP on my 2020 was slightly less than on my 2017 and there are more features and, overall, it's just a tighter, better sorted car than the excellent 2017.
You will love your car.
I suggest getting the spare. Yes, it takes up most of the rear storage compartment and does add a bit of weight. But I ditched the run flats so I'm glad to have the spare. Though there are alternatives for flat repair, I am old school.
Enjoy tracking the progress of your new JCW as it makes its way to your home and your heart!!
To be honest, I rarely listen to my music library while in my MINI. Most of the time I just listen to the wonderful sound of the well built machine which is the MINI, as the tranny shifts, the exhaust note resonates, the engine emits wonderful, refined sounds, and, well, I just sort of immerse myself in the joy the car provides without the additional sound track of music.
My understanding is that the HK sound system accommodates many modern music source inputs via the provided USB port. My suggestion would be to take whatever music source you prefer to your MINI dealer, plug it into a 2020 MINI, and see if/how it works.
I constantly stream podcasts, spotify and stored tunes from my i-phone 8 easily by bluetooth on my 2017. Works extremely well. I can't imagine a 2020 would be any different.
