$600-700 gets you a very nicely integrated system from https://www.bimmer-tech.net/bmw-rear-view-cameras/
$50-60 gets you a cheap but serviceable license plate mount cam and 4" screen sitting on your dash from eBay or Amazon, and you'll have fun learning how to tap vehicle power and run wires behind the trim panels from back to front of car.
And $250 or so gets you the hardware that goes into the BimmerTech kit above but no tech support or even installation instructions.
Oh, and $350 or so gets you that plus CarPlay functionality on your screen (no touch but CarPlay is designed to work with the joystick).

I used this:Does not look too bad mounted over the original mirror. Images from the rear camera are no worse than the OEM on the 328 I had before.
Both cameras record all the time in 1 to 5 minute loops. Rear camera images pop up when reverse is engaged.
Positive wire for backup light shows in the picture. On my car, a 2016 base Clubman it is the top wire on the passenger side door.
If anyone needs more pics of the install, just ask.
I'm happy with the results so far.

Wow, such service! :-) Pics are perfect and it really looks remarkably like it belongs.
Does it dim the mirror at night (headlight glare from other cars)? That’s the only reason I could imagine not using it.
again, thank you very much for the installed pics! Very helpful!

It won't dim at night, no big deal for me and the anti-reflective coating does help.

I had mine installed for about $405 CAD from a local shop (4X4Shop.ca) here in Ontario Canada. They also ship worldwide.
They installed the back up camera to the location where the OEM camera goes and also a module that integrates to the centre console screen with PDC (if your car is equip) just like OEM.
