Back-up Camera (platecam)

I'm considering of installing a back-up camera on my MCSC due to the poor rear-view visibility of the convertible. The car will have 2 monitors: Kenwood KVT-815DVD (for GPS, DVD, and rear camera) and also another smaller 3.5" monitor mounted between the overhead switches dedicated to rear view with on/off triggered by the reverse signal. Any suggestions?

Mini Accessory ???

If you happen to have the Nav system, you may be interested in the dealer installed accessory. I saw it in the European brochure.

I would recommend going with the OEM version. I am sure it will yield a cleaner install. You can probably connect it to an aftermarket display.

Snakeeyes

I have installed the Snakeeyes rear view camera on my Avalanche and love it. The camera is installed right over the trailor hitch and the monitor fits like an OEM unit in what was a cubby hole in the dash. Normally the monitor fits behind the sunvisor on other cars. Took only a few hours to install. Since my monitor is in the dash I hooked it up to be on all of the time. Or you could hook it up to be on when in reverse. Do a google search for Snakeeyes and see what they have to offer. I just got my MINI s and didn't get the convertable because of the poor visibility, top up or down. Mush worse than my Tbird.

I installed the pioneer rear view cam on my mcs...i also have the oem nav, and decided to go with an alpine head unit (d300 that flips open)
I tried 2 differnt cams, and the pioneer is by far the best one...I pit in the plave of one of the rear licence plate lights...it fits perfectly, gets light at night from the reverse light (it's low lux, but the light helps) and the area of vision is perfect...I can see anything that is about 1foot away from the left side and the right...

As far as cams I think that might be one of the best a/m ones on the market. It also comes in it's own case which protects it from rain etc...

Look into that if you don't go oem...

Using one of the license plate light for the camera is a clever idea. I'll probably install the clarion camera that I already have and wire it to a small 2.5" or 3.5" monitor.
