Physical dimensions of HU and ...

Hey all,

I am planning an install in a Mini that is en route. The factory H.U. looks likely larger than normal 1 DIN. Can anyone give me the physical dimensions of the stock (non HK) headunit? Ideally also the dimesions of at least the face of the HU, AC control module, and Toggle Row, as well as the center pillar space in all. I am trying to determine how much space I can make in the center pillar for a touchscreen LCD.

You might want to check out Crutchfield's website. They'll be able to tell you what will fit, and from that you can probably determine the size of other head units...

Unfortunately they don't have the mini in their system...

Its in there, but when i select 2005 Hatch with Nav it shows no matches. In any case that wouldn't give me the measurements of the other pieces

I'm going to make a very educated guess and say single din head unit will fit perfectly......

However, if you got the Nav system, then I'm not sure how that would interface for audio with an aftermarket head unit.

To get the pillar measurements just go to the dealership and measure what you need.

The stock HU measures-
7.25" wide, 2 1/8" tall, 6.25" deep
Face plate outer dimensions are-
7.5" wide and 2 7/8" tall with mounting brackets out to 8 5/8" on the lower end and three sets of holes. The top set of holes is 7 7/8" from center to center and the lower two sets of holes are about 8" from center to center.

I replaced my stock HU with a Nakamichi CD400 that fit fine. I had an aftermarket face trim plate installed.

The OEM unit is a typical single-din design. I installed Kenwood KVT-815 DVD/GPS monitor HU without any modification. There's quite a bit of space behind the stereo and AC control panel to house a unit with longer dimension.
