$81.63 worth of gas

I filled the Mini this AM.

Gas was Euro 1.349 per liter. Super bleifrei.

Today's exchange rate is $1.34501 to the Euro.

I put in 44.99 liters (it's a 50 liter tank).

I think that works out to $6.87 per gallon.

And I think that works out to $81.63 to fill my tank.

Yeah. but this wasn't the track, but my loca / regular gas station. And this wasn't 98 octane, for sure!

And this is a 50 liter tank, not some monster SUV or truck.

OUCH! OK - I'm done complaining about the price of gas in Cali. Thanks for the reality check.

yeah, every time I shake my head over US gas prices, I think of Europeans who've been paying at least twice what we pay for years. I guess we can't complain, even if it hits $4/US gallon.

F that. I am still complaining. When gas was $70 a barrel they used it as an excuse for higher prices at the pump. Then, the price fell to $58/barrel. The pump price stayed exactly where it was. Have to call Big Time BS on that.

It gives you some perspective on one reason the Cooper is more popular in Europe and S is more popular in the US. Also they seem to get a much larger difference in insurance premiums between Cooper and S.

Holy smokes, I could not imagine driving a non-S over here. Tank full, I headed off to dinner tonight, my OBC telling me I was good for a range of 330 miles. Well, I hit the autobahn, wound it up to about 120+ mph, and gosh, that range dropped to 270!

At almost $7 a gallon, you can be sure I'm going to get the most out of it!

Times are certainly good for those of us in the Oil business, however I recall not 4 years ago when the industry sucked and Petroleum Engineers like myself could not find a job. I also recall the same thing in 1985, 1993 and 1998.
So my only wish for x-mas is that U.S. gasoline sell for the same price as bottled water. You guys in Europe are priced just about right IMO.

Won't the MINI run okay on mid-bleifrei?

I don't know on what scale that price is right but it's getting so even the MINI is too expensive to run. The oil companies are getting record profits, car companies give little or no alternatives, the US doesn't have the infrastructure for practicle mass transit and the rest of us are drowning because the price of oil drives the price of everything else.

I don't know, and I don't plan to find out. Super is their mid grade, and it's the Mini / BMW stated requirement (even us quasi-Germans are very serious about following the rules). There is a higher grade, also, and I know some who use it (sometimes, often, and even all the time) but yes, it is more expensive still.

Unfortunelty anything over 55 mph and that dang consumption guage drops like a rock! I have also had to fill up on the economy a time or two and it was not pleseant at all. 50 Euros can go real fast.... This is why when AAFES rasises the gas prices 10 cents I am not bothered. I just remember what I could be paying.

I use Super only and actually have my map (MTH) set for that. This was the directive from BWM but I do know that the JCW required Super + from the factory. There is no need to run Super + here for the straight MCS.

My MINI gets good mpg at speeds over 55 mph, daflake. I crossed Texas last week, where the posted speed limit on parts of I-10 is 80 mph, and got good mileage....about 34+mpg.

Sorry, my sarcasm was lost. My average speed on the autobahn is about 100 + MPH. Add to that, most of the guys here have mods that will raise the fuel consuption a bit.

FYI, good to see you in here MINIclo!

I only use super-plus (93 octane)...sometimes throw in some 104+ to boot... gtes kind of expensive but no worries about knock under boost. Especially at redline in 5th or 6th gear on the Autobahn!

Don't you buy on base/post? almsot as cheap as the states... and I always keep 100 liters or so worth of coupons in case I'm out and about.
