MINI United 2009 - Silverstone

Several of us from Redwood Empire Mini Enthusiasts are making plans to travel to Silverstone in the UK for MINI United 2009. The dates are May 22-24-2009. We have investigated hotels, air fares, and rental (hire) MINIs.

Just wondering if anyone else from the US, particularly the west coast is interested in going. It would be fun to go as a group. This will be the 50th anniversary of Mini and I expect this will be one big bash.

matty125,

I have made hotel reservations at the Travelodge Towcester - Silverstone for May 21-26, 2009. Don't know how much the tickets are yet, but I will post as soon as I get that and any other information. Where in Germany are you? We may plan to extend our visit while we are over there.

Looks like it's 99.9% positive it'll be at Silverstone. We've already booked a B&B between Towcester and Weedon and praying it doesn't rain all weekend like it did at Zandvoort last year.

Here is the latest MINI press release - MINI United at Silverstone - glad I booked a room there

MINI back to the roots. MINI United 2009 in Silverstone.
04.12.2008

Munich/Silverstone. After Misano/Italy and Zandvoort/Netherlands, MINI is celebrating the third MINI United Festival from 22-24 May 2009 in the land of its birth. Silverstone/UK with its legendary racetrack will be next year's setting for the largest MINI fan event ever celebrating the brand's 50th birthday.

MINI lovers, most of whom will be travelling in their own cars from countries all over the world, can look forward to the unique mixture of an exciting show programme, motorsport action and a music festival.

In addition to music show acts, stunt shows, go-karting, lounge areas and DJs, the MINI community will also be able to experience a huge exhibition which will take MINI fans through the whole history of the brand. The MINI CHALLENGE will also be part of the festival again, moving into its third and fourth heat in front of an international audience. Also the Mini Seven Racing Club will increase the excitement on the course by organizing a race with 50 classic Mini race cars. In addition, it will be possible for people to drive a few laps on the racetrack, either alone or with a MINI CHALLENGE driver. There will be lots of bars, kiosks and restaurants providing a plentiful supply of food and drink. And for those looking for children's entertainments, the Kids' Area will once again provide plenty of activities, from bobby-car racing and climbing to body-painting.

Hi there from AZ!
I am planning on being there, travel plans are May 16th-24th.
I know of a few other peeps here from the DMC are thinking of going as well. And another friend from REME is thinking of it too.
So far, no hotel or flights made.

Cannot wait!

Got our tickets for London to Brighton run & MINI United, plus hotel at Travelodge at Silverstone, plus we have airline tickets. Looks like all I have left is renting a MINI over there.

The MINI United website is up and running (although slow). It has a lot of information. You can sign up there and then see who else is going.

If anyone else is going from the US, please post it here.

Travelodge is the UK's version of Motel 6. Typically, they are located directly off of their highways (motorways) and also are co-located with a Little Chef, which is like Shonies, in the same parking lot. Hope this helps.

Cheers!!

Been posting around and stupid me, I should have started at NAM! I received a fellowship to study the heritage of the Mini this summer. I'll be doing my Addict's tour on Friday (22 May) morning, then off to MU 09! My wife and I will be staying just outside of Banbury for about 3 weeks. Any places I shouldn't miss? Any news on a US get together?

I will be sure to stop by Captain Digby's Pub for lunch after the London to Brighton run and on my way to Silverstone. Bangers & Mash, a pint or two of ale, and toss a few darts...live can't be any better
